I don't think I was the one making that Sony remark in the Kindle subforum, but I could have been making a socalled "disparaging" remark about the Kindle, or the iPad more likely.

The reason is I use the "new posts" menu, and I click on whatever seems interesting.

But even so, if the criteria for being a troll is to "navigate to xx forum and post something negative", then it's not a question of whether or not people are trolling, but rather that some people don't want to hear anything negative. And that, to me, is fanboyism, and much worse than actual trolling.

Let me just pop in here for a moment........I"m not sure exactly which remark this is referring to, and I really don't need to know.

I just want to make something clear. I never "'navigate to the Sony forum.", nor do I think others do deliberately.

Heres the thing.......I have very few forums blocked on my cp, and so, when I log on, i am presented with posts from all threads and forums. If the posts interests me, I reply to it, many times not knowing which forum its from, because I don't read that far over to the right.

I would suggest this be the case, not people specifically targeting Kindles, Sony's or any other reader.

In this particular case some posted a new thread in the Sony forum pointing out that Kindle forum on MR wins over Sony forum and why Kindle is better.
If this would have been posted in the Kindle forum, this would have been a normal statement. Posting this in the Sony forum looks like an intent to provoke people.

Yes, the "troll" is in the intent, not in the content. If you are growing a field of corn, then a sunflower growing in there is a weed. But if you are growing sunflowers, a stalk of corn would be. If you are on a forum dedicated to home bookbinding, constantly claiming that ebooks are evil and will lead to the end of civilization probably wouldn't generally be considered a troll. Come to a site of, by, and for ebook enthusiasts, say the exact same thing, and it is a troll. And yes, if you go to the Kindle forum and start a thread on how much better the Kindle is than the Sony and you hope the Sony fails, it isn't trolling, but if you go on the Sony forum just to post the same thing-- you are trolling.

Annnnnd, this is why I avoid the Kindle forums now. They're too fanboi and intentionally divisive. Not to mention scaring off new people when they ask innocent questions that have been answered before. Heaven forbid they have all the information so they can make a decision.
