Well, sold my Nook Classic yesterday and picked the NC last night.
Reasons: eyesight going fast and the LCD does the trick for these old used eyes. Functionality is so much better. Touch screen is much more user friendly. Mags are absolutely amazing and PDF's work as advertised. Very happy with the Nook Color. |

Regarding the page turns on the NC.
Wandered into B&N to check the Color, and 1.5 on nook classic. As I recall, you don't have to swipe the screen to turn pages. You merely have to tap right to move ahead, tap left to move back. Could be wrong, but since I know Bluefire works that way on my wife's iPad, I am pretty sure I did the tap thing on the NC without thinking about it. |

Page turns on the Color can be accomplished by right/left finger swipes or right/left finger taps. Your choice.

I have had mine now a few weeks. I got it on the first Friday they came out. I like it a lot, I use it every day, but I do have some criticisms. The criticisms do not outweigh the nice features of this reader.
1. It is not easy to read pdf files. Maybe it is just me, but you can't just turn the page in a pdf file. Instead, it has to load each page and it takes too long. 2. The web browser is hard to navigate. It is way too easy to hit the wrong little button and end up where you did not want to go. This use to be my complaint about cell phones buy my Droid was a huge improvement on that. It is not easy to pinch the screen size and I am just as likely to hit the wrong button doing this too. 3. I have been surprised at how many books are not available electronically. It is fine for latest publications, but I have a huge collection of gardening and cook books that I can't get for the Nook. 4. 2 week lending period is not enough, I should be able to give my books away. As long as there is just one copy, it should be mine to do what I want with it. Make it un copyable. 5. Some screens do not have a back button. This is an annoyance and you have to go back to the start screen |

It's been a less frustrating experience. I also locked browsing to landscape mode. |

The web browser is the easiest no-brainer fix for B&N.... there are good, free browsers for Android and it makes sense to fix this fast and at zero cost.

Yeah, after rooting I use Dolphin Browser HD. The difference is night and day.

PDF files page turns.
-------------------- I had the same problem as Joey301 with PDF files. Could not turn pages. Tap did not work. Right and left swipe did not work either. Then I find the solution almost by chance. Swipe up to go to the next page, swipe down to go to the previous page. Works like a charm with my Nook Color. |

I use a free utility that is amazing for conversion from pdf to epub. http://www.pdftoepub.com/ It formats for a 7" kindle or epub reader and turns the pdfs to nice epubs. I've had my NC for only a day and I'm truly LOVING it... Will write more later. |

Funny, the PDF support is something I love in the NOOKColor. I read a lot of technical spec's (LSC 1.1, ADI 2.0, RTSP, etc) and the tables and graphic load well and page turning though vertical instead of horizontal is quick and easy.
I create a number of reports in PDF as well and they work nicely too. |
