Yes, that was what I was saying. I use Overdrive for audiobooks and I thought I could renew them.

I really don't understand how this can still be said. When I was in the US I brought my Nook (with 1.5) with me and looked at the difference. Really, there isn't much if any.

The screen background is the same. The difference is the colour of the "ink". On a 2nd generation screen "black" text is grey; on a 3rd generation screen it is truly black. The screen manufacturer quotes a 50% improvement in contrast between the two screens - that does seem to be pretty accurate.

You can see the two screens side by side in a photograph in this post. I think you'll agree that the difference is pretty striking.

Yes, but I am talking about the difference between a K3 and a Nook with 1.5. The text looks almost exactly the same. The font is now darker and bolder on the Nook. There might be some slight difference, but I don't think it can be said to be anywhere near something to sway a person to pick one device over the other. IMO, it is the personal preferences like weight, epub or mobi, touch screen vs physical keyboard, etc that would sway a consumer.

I agree. I don't think the screen difference is a make or break deal. Given the choice, I would take the Pearl, all else being equal.

I did view the Nook (1.5) and the Color Nook outside in bright sunshine. The Nook was perfectly readable. The Color Nook was just awful. But take them inside the store and that Color Nook really looks nice. I didn't spend much time with the Color Nook as it was priced out of my budget and I wanted a longer battery life than it offers.

Wow, thanks everyone! A lot of your comments were extremely helpful. I totally forgot to mention in my first post though that I did get the chance to play around with both the devices, although I've had a lot more playtime with the Nook. I'm wondering if maybe that's what's making me lean towards it slightly more. The problem with the Kindle is that whenever I see it on display (Best Buy or Target) it's always a demo unit that seems to be "locked." At first I thought I was just inept and didn't know how to use it but now I'm pretty sure it's just locked into some kind of demo mode where it shows you various screens as it advertises itself, saying things like "Millions of titles available to purchase!" or whatever, and you can't actually navigate the device yourself. I'm trying to make myself realize that I haven't really had a fair assessment of both of them because of this, and you guys definitely helped.

If you've handled the nook and like it, go with it.

I did the same, several times, and didn't like it so that was that. But if you're comfortable with it, as many, many people are, and you want epub so you can check out books from the library, why not?

I have both Kindle and Kobo (for epub) and like both, so it's hardly a matter of there being only one correct choice for a person.

I completely agree! There are things I like about both, which is why I'm having such a tough time right now, haha. I don't think I could afford both (plus, I don't think there'd be much point for me, I'd like to streamline everything onto one device) and I actually feel like I'd be very happy with whichever one I end up with... right now, it's just a matter of making the final decision and then purchasing one! But I think hearing all these different opinions has helped me quite a bit, I knew joining this forum would be a good idea

My Target had a K3 I could actually play with. You could call a few Targets near you, and ask if the kindle is on demo mode, or if you can actually play around with it.

I am glad my task and choice were simple. I really did not know that there were so many ereaders available. My sister and brother-in-law loved their Kindles and then the reviews of the new k3 and its price made it a simple choice. Knowing what I know now - I am still mre than content with the wifi k3.

I've been grabbing the free offerings noted on this site and have too much to read.
