I have plugins in Calibre that strips the DRM from books as I load them into Calibre. That way I know all the books have been "liberated"

I also back up my Calibre Library using the service Dropbox, that way I have a backup of all my books off site. I do this as I have had hard drives die on me in the past.

to get an account on Dropbox use this link
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NT...M5?src=global0

we both get an extra 250mb if you do :-)

I leave all the DRM books on the service website (mostly B&N) , as I can download them any time I wish

The 'Base Library' folder is the source used by Calibre to add to the Calibre library. Obviously there's a useful degree of backup given that different disk drives are involved.
One other advantage of keeping separate versions is... when I edit the formatting in Sigil or Calibre, I often screw-up. Or, I just don't like the way the formatting looks, after it is said and done. If you have a semi-virgin, stripped DRM version, you can always start over with that, re-format, and re-import into Calibre.

What versions do you put on your ereader. The stripped version? For those of you that have a Kindle, are you ever worried that Amazon will 'see' the stripped version?

I simply have not gotten around to liberating the one that I need to do yet. In the meantime forum members could help me by telling me the name of the plugin and the web site that I would obtain the plugin from that takes care of the DRM in Calibre.

By in large I know that I have DRM all over my library but it doesn't make much difference. I might strip the DRM at a latter point but as for now it makes little difference.

The direct discussion of such software is prohibited by the forum rules on this board. However, if you employ the search tools, you should be able to gather enough hints to know what to ask the internet oracle about.

Search for Apprentice Alf's Blog and check out the tools archive (2.3) in the post about Dark Reverser’s work. Any questions ask them in the comments of either of those blogs. You can also follow the discussion on this mobileread thread.

I asked a question similar to this a while back. Here's my suggestion: when you import books to Calibre, you should immediately double-click on them to preview and check that the import works. I am having problems now where about 10% of my epubs in Calibre are corrupt and I'm not certain if they were "always" corrupt or if something "happened." I will have to find the source for these files. They look fine in the file list, and then when I double-click on them to preview, they don't open.

I had this happen too. I found that if I clicked on the book and it did not show the correct cover, it was not liberated.

My problem was a software that came preloaded on my netbook called 'MyWinLocker'. It was an encryption software package. Once I uninstalled it, everything was fine.
