Comics & Manga in PocketBook 902

Hi all,

it's my first time writing here, seemed the best place to ask some questions.

Never until I've seen a real ereader with e-paper that i became interested in it, mainly for manga reading.

Can anyone tell me if the 902 is good for reading manga or comics?
I would appreciate some pictures

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
for a complex review it is quite early, but I see 902 as a good reader for manga. The size big enough even for two side panels, and it feels almost like on paper

Loading speed is about 1 sec = OK.

The only problem I found is how to efficiently navigate between chapters
I didn't find way how to navigate from folder (one level up the hierarchy) but keeping the cursor (selection) on the folder I was previously inside. It moves selection on the 'parent folder' link. Which is a bit inconvenient (having manga/volume/chapter hierarchy)

Pictures are from One Piece (Mangastream scanlation)

Thanks for the quick response Lukas
I am considering buying a 902 for Christmas, as my gift for myself

The quality seems good enough and 1 sec delay per "page turn" seems almost like nothing compared to the horror that is reading on a pc screen

Ah... so you have to create a directory with images for each volume. Not very practical.

You can make a CBZ and convert it to PDF with Calibre. It works mighty fine, and you can use the zooming capacities in order to adjust the images even better. On the downside, you get bigger files.

Since the PB has good zooming capabilities, that can be a good idea!

It works fine in the PB360. I daresay a screen which is almost 4 times bigger should do better

Converting to djvu, which is supported by pocketbook, would likely get you smaller files that render faster. I have an old script that does a fair job of that but it requires a bunch of other tools (zsh, imagemagick, jpegtran, djvulibre) and hasn't been packaged. Attached in case someone wants to try it.

File Type: txt any2djvu.txt (4.9 KB, 399 views)

In Korea, to read manga, we usually convert those jpg files into an epub file. Someone made a decent program for it, called 'comic4portable'. Unfortunately, its UI is written in Korean. It helps make smaller the file size.

If you want epub, then just use this.

That app is good, but it has some glitches and it is obviously unmaintained.
