Oriental Treasure green tea, and it tastes burnt. Okay, I let the water boil and then brewed it immediately, and I can tell it tastes burnt. That's progress, right?

Nope.

It tasted burnt because you overcooked it. I would guess that the tea should be brewed using water cooled to 175 degrees and steep it for 1 minute.

What do you call it when you over cook something in water? I have had green tea made at too high a temperature and burnt is an accurate description.

It sure tasted burnt. I dumped it and resteeped the grounds at a lower temp, but still tasted nasty so I dumped it entirely.

I only steeped about 2 minutes, but the water was boiling. Anyway, it wasn't good.

Drinking a cup of Earl Grey now. It's good.

Let the water cool for a minute or two and steep it for one minute. I think you will be surprised at how much better it tastes.

And then you will buy a thermometer. (sp)

Burning tea is something that happens in the best families. And tea is almost invariantly cooked in oxigen bound covalently to hydrogen. That explains everything as our ProfCrash so patiently and expertily explains to us together with the fine points of tea lore.

spelling. My spell check does not work at work and I am too lazy to type posts in Word and spell check them here. When I think I have misspelt a word I add the (sp) tag to at least indicate that I know I got it wrong. Or that I thought I got it wrong.

My dyslexia and audiotory discrimination causes me to make some very imteresting spelling mistakes. In school my teachers asked me the do the (sp) thing so that they knew when I thought a word was wrong just in case I ended up spelled something else. It became a habit.

Lovely. Your reply deserves karma but I have to spread some before i can give it to yo again. BTW. I am working on the Darjeeling caper: I learned that I have to use less tea as its merits are on the delicate side (which is a little against my chemical intuition). I did not do it to day that turned out a coffee day, but I will to morrow.

I use the same amount of Darjeeling as I do any other black tea. Hopefully a smaller amount will do the trick for you. It is also possible that you don't like Darjeeling. (winks)

Adding Emoticons doesn't work at the office either. We have weird computers...
