At least no one has brought up the (in)famous video game character Phoenix Wright yet. I go into brain death every time some kid asks "so you're like that Phoenix dude who points and shouts, right?" Its almost as insulting as being compared to Ally McBeal.

I just noticed that I pay twice as much to fill my motorcycle gas tank with 17 liters (4.5 US gal) of gas than I used to pay to fill my old Ford pickup with 80 liters (21 US gallons) in 1970. That is ridiculous!

Is that due to the non-subsidized price in Japan or just increase in price overall?

I never knew the price was THAT high. Not that I intend to drive when I visit there.

If you don't get stopped in the first place, you don't have to explain anything to the judge. Following this rule on an IL interstate will often result in the cop passing you. Note: I'm basing a lot of this on highway/interstate travel, where the accidents get a lot more painful. .
I must say, I'm glad I learned to drive in Illinois. I think it prepared me to drive everywhere. In my opinion (and from watching others), I think it's a lot easier to learn to drive in the country or some other type of city after first learning to drive in a place like Chicago, than the reverse. My husband, who has been driving over a decade longer than me, stresses out big time when we go to Chicagoland. I have to drive so we don't both go crazy. While in Driver's Ed in high school, they brought a cop in to talk to us. Someone asked how fast we can go without getting pulled over, and he basically said the 9 rule to a bunch of hormonal, power-hungry teenagers "we won't stop you if you go 9 over, but we'll getcha at 10..."

Both, I'd guess. I was paying 18 cents a US gallon in Sierra Madre, California in 1970. I pay roughly $5.00 a US gallon today in Japan.

Between you an me, I think somebody is making a LOT of money somewhere along the line...

Why do some immature imbeciles have to make (pretend to make) everything "more" exciting?

The doubling cube can be a very important tool even in a game without money. But NOT on your first play.
I should get into that again. I learned it when I was maybe 7 or 8, my dad played it (it was the hip thing among them in the late '70s). I even had it for the Atari 2600 which was handy considering none of my friends had any idea what the big deal was.

You will NOT be happy driving in Japan. It's not just the cost of fuel either. Between massive traffic jams, frequent highway tolls, and the fact the traffic lights here are designed to stop a car after going past just two greens (they say it's to keep people from going too fast...) you never really get anywhere quickly. Unless you're on a motorcycle, that is. Lane-splitting is permitted.

Fortunately, the mass transit is superb. You can set your watch to either trains or busses, and they go everywhere. Just as long as you don't want to travel after 11pm...

I spent so bluddy long fixing the rotten bluddy computer last week, and now it is bluddy broken again! This time restoring backups not worky, and bugga me if I don't have to wait until after 6pm their time 6.30pm my time to be able to have another go at fixing the bluddy thing.

I will be lucky to be sober enough to do it by then. *tempted to go and have first drink now!*

Thanks for your concern. I guess it is less stressful than having to get on a plane for a four hour flight and a seven hour drive to get there to do it in person. *slowly sipping wine so as not to be too pissed when I have to start thinking* only hald an hour to go

That looks so beautiful, but cold, as I sit here naked and still wet from the bath with the windows open and still feeling warm.

You can't make me jealous today.

My mother in law (92) just broke her hip, has to be operated upon, I have to go in town to buy her some things on my bike through the snow and, who knows what the future brings.
I count my blessings and go with the flow and........do you have a guestroom free for me?

We can go out for a ride if you like. It is not cold, but it is dark (just) and kinda raining. But we can still go I can show off my new bike. I have only ridden it home from the bike shop and it is still new sitting in the garage waiting for a trip. You can sleep in the spare bed, but you have to like cats because Mr M will come and cuddle you in the night, and he has probably left fur all over the doona, but you won't need it because it is so warm. Shall I put the kettle on and find a pillow for you?
