I finished _To Darkness and to Death_ by Spencer-Flemming. This was the 4th of the Rev Fergesson "mystery" books. While the book was a good read... there was no mystery in it. The whole way through you know how "done it". There was a small surprise at the end...

I hope the next books in the series go back to the true "mystery" formula. I don't like to know the answer at the beginning of the book. I'm really liking [cozy] mysteries... I seems to enjoy this and SF the most.

Went back to finish _White Seed: The Untold Story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke_.

After that I will read the MRBC December selection, _The Woman in White_.

A Fire Upon the Deep by Vigne went back to the library unfinished. The dogs did me in.

Now reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie.

Next will be The Red House Mystery by Milne.

I'm reading "One Week as Lovers" by Victoria Dahl on my Sony (it's been on there so long it's still in LRF format!). Refreshing for sure after reading several crappy historical romance novels in a row.

Sort of enjoyed Asher's Gridlinked, am now reading Cemetery World by Clifford D. Simak. Earth of the future is just that, a giant and expensive cemetery.

That was about the same as my reaction to it when I read it a couple of years ago. I liked it - but not enough to continue investing in the author at that particular time.

I'm currently reading Kristine Williams - The Legend of Darkness and Light.

It's a bit formulaic in ways - but such wonderfully harmless fun. It's like Indiana Jones in space.

The book from free at Smashwords and I'm using it as a taster for Kristine Williams other books.

I had just finished Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill which I really enjoyed.

My putting needs some work.. so I just downloaded 290 page book by Geoff Mangum called "Optimal Putting".. uploading it to my kindle now and probably going to post a review of the book on my golf blog in a few days:

Reading Gone with the Wind. Beautiful writing.

My previous read was My Reading Life by Pat Conroy. I finished that with a big list of books that I am now motivated to read. GWTW was one of his top picks.

I feel I've been reading the same books for ages, and I have. The effect of reading too many at the same time, I guess.

Getting near the end of Umberto Eco's History of Beauty. More of a teaser than a learning experience really. I am not nearly erudite enough to follow all his elliptical hints and references, but it's still interesting and has nice pics.

Still reading and enjoying Ulysses, but my, is that book long! I'm not even half-way through yet. More reading pleasure ahead

Also still reading Julien Gracq's The opposite shore, but feeling less motivated to finish it every minute. The style is the exact opposite of Joyce's, finely chiseled and delicate but - to my taste - totally devoid of life. I'll give it one more chance this week-end. I find it extremely difficult to finish a sentence without having to stop and go back because my mind wandered in the middle. Maybe it's because this kind of book is not best suited to rush hour train reading... I'll see if things are better when I read it in the (relative) quiet of my own home.

Just finished an early Henry James novel "Confidence" - it read as if James were attempting to write in the style of Edith Wharton - but just couldn't hit the right note of ironically chronicling the foibles of people trying to follow or foil societal mores - and the resulting romantic mishaps.

I got an answer from Sandman Slim's author Richard Kadrey about the availability of his novels outside the USA. He (or his publisher) is showing around Sandman Slim in other countries, he doesn't know the status but hopes it will soon be available in the Netherlands.

He actually advised me that if I wanted to get his novel I could look on BitTorrent

. I have a lot of books on my TBR list at the moment but when I'm done with those I think I might opt for the BooksOnBoard giftcertificate and fake US address trick so he gets his money.

I'm reading "Soulless" by Gail Carriger, the first in her Parasol Protectorate series (after a glowing recommendation from phenomshel, whoo has great taste!). Interesting concept, I've only just started it so no other comments yet

I had started another book yesterday that I downloaded on smashwords (and paid more than I normally do on it) after reading good reviews. It was really awful. I couldn't keep reading it. Either they had no editing at all or a really terrible one.
