Too bad about Oberon Design; they make great cases and binders.
Still, look around; there's dozens of DX cases like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/886...ASY5NBE6PPAM9M

Note the elastic in all four corners.
Failing that, could can always get a journal or pad binder and velcro the reader in place.
Or just wait after the 902 ships and somebody starts making covers for them.

What about this one, it is specifically for 902/903 and could hardly be any better:

Maybe we can get Pocketgoods to sell some to a US dealer and save some of the transportation costs.

There are definitely neoprene covers in the original package.

Talking Case for the PB902

Christof, check out cases for the iPad. It's my understanding (I'm sure I read it somewhere but I'm not sure where) that the PB902 and the iPad are almost exactly the same size. It's worth a shot, and I want a case for mine too, but I'm hoping for something in metal. I've had leather cases for all my ereaders in the past, and still managed to break three ereader screens (sat on one, fell and broke another one in the fall and dropped the third on a concrete floor.) So, this time, I'm not taking any chances. I'm hoping to find something large enough to hold the reader comfortably, and maybe even include a neoprene case inside for extra cushioning.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Hi Christof,
This would definitely be a tight fit. We've already got those straps quite
tight for the security of the kindle. The pocketbook is quite a bit
thicker. With only one of the straps being elastic, we are afraid that it
will just be too tight.
Thanks for your interest though.

Can anyone confirm this at all?

Does anyone have a solution to this, like a modification or plans for a custom leather ereader case? Has someone done a howto make your own leather ereader case yet?

Thanks
Christof

I just got home with my 902, and my wife has an iPad. They're not the same size.

The 902 is about 18mm longer than the iPad, and about 2 or 3mm wider. It also feels about 1 or 2mm thinner.

The 902 is also 1 or 2mm shorter than the original Kindle DX, but about 9 or 10mm wider. It will not fit in my Moleskine DX case.

I was going to go by Apple on my way out today but had to boogie to pick up my son from Kinder. IF the Ipad case is not too tight on the Ipad it may still fit.

Eric does you wife have a case to try it in?

I did fit the 902 in an Ipad stand earlier today.

She does, but it's one that fits the iPad like a glove and has a built-in stand. There is no way, given our current knowledge of physics, that it'll fit without destroying the case.

I'm fine with the sleeve it came with for now. Maybe later I'll look into case options. I do have a birthday coming up in a month, so maybe there will be a few choices by then.

I have ordered that Pocketgoods case, but it is not even real leather, even though it costs 60 euros. I bought a wonderful to touch real leather bag for my camera with all kinds of compartments for less.
Still, it should be pretty good. No choice so far, so no difficulty in choosing.

What is the problem? I have the 902 and the Moleskin DX case. The fit is quite tight, but it does fit.

Huh. I'll have to try that again. It looked way too wide to allow the case to close. In fact, it looked so far off I didn't even try to put the reader into the case.

Do you have a notebook in the case along with the 902?

Yes, I have the notebook in there along with the 902. In terms of thickness, it seems to work fine. When closed, the covers of the case are parallel, or perhaps a little less than that--in other words, the additional thickness of the 902 over the DX does not make the case bulge in any way when closed. In terms of width, I agree the 902 looked a little too wide before inserting the unit into the case, and while the elastic straps are quite tight (although I don't think so tight that they risk damaging the unit or anything of that sort), and somewhat difficult to get on, once in, the case seems perfectly functional. The additional width of the 902 over the DX does not seem to impede the closing of the case in any way, as there seems to be some wiggle room on the inside (spine) side of the case, and the outside edge of the 902 lines up just about even with the outside edge of the case, but does not overhang it in any way.

Let me know if you have a different experience or opinion once trying it. Others may be interested in how this, as well as other DX-specific cases with elastic straps, may work for the 902.

So, I managed to wedge my 902 into the Moleskine case last night. It was not easy to do as I was putting one corner in, another would tend to slip off. After a few minutes of wrestling with it, though, it's in. And it actually works relatively well.

My biggest concern is the top-right strap partly covering the power button. I don't know if it'll be an issue in normal use, but the unit turned on and off a handful of times while I was attempting to get it into the case.

In the end, it'll work. At least until I decide which of my 902 or DX I'm keeping.

I agree with the power button concern. Although I find that the left edge of the power button peeks out from underneath the elastic strap enough to be useable. Or, at the very worst, on occasion I have to push the strap aside a millimeter or so to reach the power button, and when you let go the strap slips back into place.

Not a perfect solution, but pretty good, given the dearth of comparable cases on the market.

Ok, so I got 902 with the artificial leather covers. I like them.
Sure, would have liked real leather more.
But the covers are well reinforced inside, good protection, their inner side is soft, the device is locked and held firmly, the front cover folds fully backwards. The strap has a magnetic lock which is very convenient but reliable enough, it seems that it would do its job and would not allow the covers to open when the 902 is falling to the floor...

tuf-luv cover with stand

Here is another 902/903 case, for £24.99 (the built-in stand seems cute)
http://tuff-luv.com/faux-veggie-leat...lack-4754.html
also at Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tuff-Luv-Veg...1637675&sr=1-6
I'm not concerned about style/class or price, but it has to survive a fall onto a hard floor with the cover open. I've seen 2-4mm thick neoprene covers for iPads, and I'd imagine if the covered iPad somehow gets knocked off a table it'll bounce. For instance, there's extra padding on the corners and knobs on the face so that there is less shock falling on-corner or on-edge and the screen cannot possibly be impacted directly if it falls flat on the floor. No so sure with these leather-type cases for the PocketBook.
