And you might just not realize you're off limit, of everyone else is. Trouble with laws / rules, is that that can't cover every special cases. Sometimes breaking them is safer / better. Just up to us to remember to be responsible.

I liked Montana's old "Reasonable, safe speed" law, myself.

Law Professor Mode...Must. Resist... You understand that if I went into court today and tried the "going with the flow" defense I would likely get into hot water for providing such a lame defense for my client, right? My first year law students know better than that... I hope. |

I was given a ticket by a Vermont State Trooper for passing another car by crossing a yellow line. I took it to court. It was dismissed by the Judge and the Trooper was admonished for not knowing the law. In Vermont (at the time) the law stated that it is/was illegal to pass when the way ahead is not clear. Nothing at all written about yellow lines. It's a good idea to always check the laws before we just pay out money! Stitchawl |

. Of course the officer didn't bother showing up at court so it was thrown out. Moral of the story: Always read signs while driving!

If you have time to kill, or just want a lark, go to traffic court. The excuses can be very funny. One girl ticketed for littering had a defense of "But it was biodegradable!" A girl with a parking ticket brought in a photo showing that the No Parking sign had been removed by the city (I don't believe that the city removed it for a minute) a few days after she was ticketed. The judge said to one guy "I see you were pulled over for driving with your lights on". "Yes, your honor, I had just left a brightly lit establishment." "Yes, You had just pulled out of (name forgotten) Joe's Bar." "Yes, your honor. "I also see that you were driving with a revoked license." "Yes, your honor, but It was only for a few blocks to pick something up for my mother." "I also see that your mother did not give you permission to drive her car." My problem was not laughing out loud. The kid just couldn't win. |

A new rant. I play backgammon online (not for money). (People who don't know, and play, Backgammon can skip this one.) I just had a, supposed, "expert" start a game with me. I won the roll and moved a 1,3. It's now his turn. The Fr#$%^#&#$ moron doubles me! This is a game without bets, and the moron doubles me before his first move! Why do some immature imbeciles have to make (pretend to make) everything "more" exciting? The doubling cube can be a very important tool even in a game without money. But NOT on your first play. |
