Anyhow, to keep this on topic... I went with the lighted case from Amazon. Yeah, it was expensive, and very painful to finally come to that decision, but I've not regretted it. My reasoning was that I've never found a booklight that I liked because they're always awkward to clip on (wouldn't be as bad on a Kindle since the pages aren't turning) and I knew that I'd never have it when I wanted it -- it was something else to carry around for those unexpected times when I need it. Some of the aftermarket cases has integrated lights, but they weren't as nicely implemented and felt clunkly. After the fact I don't regret having splurged on this particular item -- I just wish they'd make it in a non leather version as I try to reduce my use of animal products.

Velcro works fine too but some people don't like sticking stuff onto their kindle. I used Velcro for a while before I could get the smack dab. I agree, something always gets messed up when you do a demo. Especially opening up a book, that forever changes the setting for how far into the book you have read especially when the pages forward button is pressed a few times. I love the look of the Oberon and had one for the k3 but really I just prefer the amazon model. Plus I love the hinges, always have done, it looks clean and not too fussy. |

I bought the Amazon case without the light - I chose a red one - and it is very nice. The Kindle fits in it nicely and there is a securing elastic cord that keeps it closed when you are not using it.

OK, folks...I have gone ahead and ordered the K3 with the apple green non-lighted cover. I'll let dad decide if he wants that clip or velcro or 3M command strips or whatever. Thanks for all the feedback!

I didn't vote. Whatever you decide, I would recommend that you get one where the cover is latched closed. Otherwise, if you drop it, the cover may fall open and your kindle will be scratched. I hope your father enjoys his! k4k |

Great choice! Not that I am biased because I also have the green Amazon cover.... It is a really nice color. I use the clip-on eBook Lite from Target. It is similar to the Kandle on Amazon. You might want to do a search on the forum for lights. There have been many threads on that subject. Most lights cost in the range from $10 to $20.

I got a bundlemonster(black) + kandle. The bundlemonster case looks very elegant and is around 15-20 bucks cheaper than the amazon case depending on which one you take. I'm happy with my case.

One reason I decided not to get the lighted cover is that 99% of the time...if he is reading he is in his recliner in the living room that has a lamp right next to it, so not other light should be necessary. And he's never been one to read in bed usually...once he goes to get in bed he's ready to sleep, not read. So this should work out I hope!

The green is great and he will love it I am sure. I read in bed but I have a bedside lamp and that is enough for me to read by.

I consider the second-best case to be a Tuff-Luv Multiviewer http://www.amazon.com/Tuff-Luv-Multi...320218&sr=8-10 This one has a snaplatch on top so that you can easily slide the Kindle out of the case. But it also has an ingenious multi-positional stand incorporated into the case, so that you can stand it on the table while you are eating.

the book style will be fine, especially if he likes the feel of reading a paperback, and the cover seems more like a book style than just the kindle on its own. I find the kindle without a cover too small and light and I feel I am going to damage it.

I guess I'm the only poor person here... I went with the CrazyOnDigital case. I found it on sale for $11 shipped. It's real leather and I like the magnetic clasp. The holder on the bottom right corner makes it a little difficult to hit the right direction pad, but I'm used to pressing it with my thumbnail. It's actually a couple dollars cheaper if you get it straight from the CrazyOnDigital web site and not Amazon. |

i agree that the Kindle seems light, but for me, small is the Sony 350 or my iPhone. I do like those Tuff-Luv cases, though, and the multi-positional ones are very practical.

He's your DAD for crying out loud ! Amazon lighted cover ! NO doubt. Bit expensive, but i REALLY works. Forget about the "hinges/cracks" etc. That was K2. JUST be very carefull when inserting K3 into lighted cover. Make SURE lower connector is correctly in place before snapping in upper connector. It really works !. You always have extra light with you, no extra thinga-ma-gigs you have to remember to bring. Ahh well - charger. Ok, ok - YOU get to decide the colour ;-D Keep us posted.
