My video issues have been resolved, thanks to the other thread. The movies look fantastic.

If you use the correct video parameters (see the specifications and the manual) video will play fine. If webbrowsing is slow and difficult you should take a look at your Wifi connection. Because the webbrowsing speed should be fine. If you had taken a quick look at the B&N Nook Color board you would know that Facebook is a known problem of the current Android browser, and that the mobile version of the website will work without a problem. Of course a tablet is more heavy than a e-ink e-reader. Again, the weight is clearly mentioned in the specifications. If you cannot find your books at the B&N store, one advantage of the Nook Color is that unlike the Kindle you can buy DRM books at almost every bookstore (except the Kindle store). You can use a search engine like Inkmesh or Addall. |

My question is, if you hate the NOOKcolor that much why don't you just take it back instead of doing nothing but complaining about it? Sorry that it wasn't what you wanted it to be. Maybe you should buy and iPad instead.

Sorry you don't like my answer...
The question was how is everyone enjoying their NC? I gave an honest answer. I'm sorry some of the posters didn't like my answer (and some felt the need to attack me) but it's been a very frustrating experience so far.

Putting out something that does not do what they say it will without you tweaking your ebooks, mp4's, and JPG's is simply unacceptable in this day and age. Perhaps I just don't have the hours of free time some other people do. I did get my first working video on. However I also loaded some jpgs but the nook did not allow my to change them to vertical or use as wallpaper. There are things I like about the NC but right now the negatives out weigh the positives. I'm going to give it a little time and see if there are fix's for some of these negatives. |

I've got to say that the DRM removal for eReader is pretty easy and once you learn the method takes seconds. I had a hundred or so books that I had bought over the years in eReader format and had no issues finding a solution with google for getting the DRM off and converting them to epub and it took very little time honestly.
Unlike my actual ePubs they also show the covers. ![]() |

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT. Had it been out when I was first shopping for an ereader (I live in Canada and I ended up getting the first gen Kobo). Works great! I don't have an issue reading on the LCD (found the right settings for my eyes), I love all the little features it has...was real easy moving my books onto the device. It is a bit heavy, but nothing that's gonna kill me. I showed it to some co-workers (none of them know much about ereaders, except for the Kindle as it's easily accessible in Canada) and ...they told me to watch it closely as it may disappear...oy. I think it can only get better! YAY!!!!

The statement is that the NC is fantastic, the addendum to that statement is that it is even more fantastic once roted. The OP never said there was a need to root it at all, just that rooting makes it even more fantastic. OP never said rooting was a requirement to make it fantastic. Your question makes you look bitter and trollish.

Three questions for NookColor owners:
1) Can notes and copied text from books be transferred to a PC? 2) Can the NC be used to create and edit text files? 3) How well does the virtual keyboard work? (I noticed one person in this thread said it was overly-sensitive, but this could be a matter of personal preference and becoming adjusted to the device.) I don't expect the NC to have all the word-processing capabilities of a desktop computer, but if it could edit simple notepad files (.txt), that would be a big selling point. I actually don't own a Nook Color (yet) but I'm under the impression that this is what the iPad pretends to be, a multimedia device with a streamlined handling centered around reading (books, magazines, the web) and supporting music and video... is that the case?
because I could live without much expandability (softwarewise) if the device already has everything built in (the iPad, for twice the money, doesn't)... And: i have a Sony Reader which is great but I'd like a companion to spend some time with it ;-) |

I'm not sure about your other questions with an out of the box nook color, but rooted you can install Documents to GO and various other programs to do what you want. |

Although rooting is certainly not required, it would solve all of your problems. For example: For your ereader.com books, you could install the ereader app. You could also install aldiko, Kindle, and Borders/Kobo. For your video problems you could install Rockplayer (haven't tried it yet, but it should work). ***It's not so much the B&N software engineers that are fault as it is the limits of the stock Android video player. Still, they could have optimized it, and probably will in future firmware upgrades. For your internet browser issues, you could install Dolphin HD (I really like that I can pinch zoom in it), Opera Mini, or Skyfire. Although, the stock browser has been fast and stable in my experience with it. Last edited by Noah98; 12-02-2010 at 12:18 PM. |
