If I were Amazon and knew that the KindleDX would get all the functionality of the Kindle3 series I would not say a word. If I did say that yes the software would be out on October 23rd, I would get thousands of emails every single day, this forum would be clogged with idiots saying when oh when oh when and other saying they were returning their KindleDX because the software wasn't going to be released before October 12th. If I didn't give a date and just said it would be done it would be even worse. The only logical course is to say, "Firmware? Firmware? What firmware?" And then surprise people with an update when it's ready. |

Nope. I am hoping that it will happen when they release the new firmware that allows lending.

I ordered a KDXG today and attached a question to my order asking when KDXG will get the same functionality/firmware as K3 or if KDXG is a bad purchase for pdfs. |

Response from Amazon Customer Servive : "...Please notice that we're not sure about Kindle DX get the new firmware any time soon. Thanks for writing about your suggestion to update Kindle DX with new functionality..." I'm not quite sure this means we get new FW before 2020. |

I can't help feeling Amazon's letting the DXG die with some kind of replacement coming next year. Maybe that's why they're keeping the price so high so they can have a dramatic price drop and clear stock. I want to buy one but I just can't pull the trigger because I feel I'm going to regret it. |

I am happy I pulled the trigger. I have greatly enjoyed my DXG. Then again, I bought it the day that it came out. As with all electronics, if you wait until the latest and greatest comes out you will end up buying nothing. It is easier for me to say this then others because I don't read PDF's. (grins) |

I can't help but shake my head in disbelief when I think about how I paid $400 for my Sony 900. Just a few months later a new and improved model is selling for $300 ($250 if you purchased the week of Black Friday). | |

I will be pleased if it includes an update to the K3 firmware but I am not counting on that

well i got tired of waiting for the DX update and installed Duokan on my DX-graphite. works a treat, has all the K3 PDF features plus more. can darken the PDFs with 6 levels of graduation and read in a number of different ways including split columns. it's also got far more control over cropping, so you can move the white borders on PDFs without sending the text outside the margins. it's really easy to install and picks up you existing Kindle library, so no need to duplicate files. the great thing is it's dual boot so i can swap beetwen this and standard firmware. |
