I just think it's predict-apple.

Apple does this kind of thing all the time. They ban things from the app store for the most inane reasons. Are they within their rights? Yes. Was it really a good idea? Probably not.

Silly to assume that consumers don't know what they're buying simply because they don't buy what you choose to buy.

I've been happy with a string of ThinkPads and with several Apple gadgets. I buy them because they serve my needs. I don't need your charity, lol.

The thing with Apple, is that all their devices seem to work on the principle that there's only one way to do things.

Unfortunately, that's not always the case for all people. If it works for you, it works very well; if it doesn't work for you, it feels like a straight-jacket. Personally, I find the iOS ecosystem very constraining. I may get an iOS device later, but for now I much prefer Android.

Having said that, I'm typing this post on a Mac.

It's like everything else, what's right for one person, might not be right for another - and it's not simply because one's not aware of the options.

Imagine how much further along we'd be as a civilization if people could grasp this simple idea.

Consumers are getting lazy; and it's time they stood up to these companies and voted with their wallets.
How about they stop being consumers and start being citizens again?

As long as they don't propose legislation for such trivial matters.

Uhm, you just turned the well established common law of right of publicity on its head....

Using a person's likeness for commercial purposes without their permission is a tort and SJ is perfectly within his rights to sue the doll maker and make them disgorge all profits, plus possibly collect other damages.

As to the banning th Android magazine app, sure, Apple is within its rights, but technically, by the same token, Google can refuse all Apple-related ads, and Amazon can refuse to carry any iPad-related magazines or books (because they compete with its Kindle). It's shortsighted and idiotic.

Because Apple owns the App Store.

When the Nook Color gets its App Store, I don't think that they'll be selling the Kindle App there.

Hi all,

I don't like the sound of the ban, because it seems unreasonable to me. If I had an iPhone, I would not want any company deciding for me, what my reading list should be.

I did a quick search of the Android Market before posting. I can, for example download a book on how to create apps for iPhones to my Android phone, should I wish. That gives me freedom of choice, something I value highly.

Has Apple been so accommodating with its store? (A search for "Android" on the Australian store yielded no hits.) Has Apple given its reasons for banning the app?

Thankfully, I read through the article before posting here, and have not confused the word "advertise" as a synonym for "magazine." The comments below the article were quite amusing.

Cheers,

We are not talking an app, but a magazine. Yes, it's a competing platform, but as a consumer I think you're defending the undefensible: You are actually condoning not only closed systems which would be fine, but behaviour that ties you even more into that system, as you apparently need another setup to read about the competition. I guess Apple is happy, though. The company has the most loyal, most blind fanbase ever.

Again, it's a magazine about Android they wont have. I guess it would be perfectly fine to make sure you couldn't read about Windows when on your Mac. Yay for closed systems, monopolistic and draconian behaviour

as far as the doll is concerned apple was RIGHT but not because of the doll as some heremight think - it was the stand shaped as the company logo. thats apples protected stuff and they are free to stop everybody who reuses it w/o paying

If you buy an iPhone or iPad that is what you get. They are quite upfront about it, so you make your decision before getting one. Those who don't like it (myself included) can just buy something else. This behavior is definitely legal, although for me it is just one of the many reasons I will never buy an Apple product again. If they can think of a way to prevent users from reading about Windows on a Mac, they will implement it, don't you think?
