erictoma: Sorry if I got huffy there. We are strongly discouraged from giving any directions about DRM removal on this forum. That's why I say to use Google.
As for the legality, I'm only doing it to read what I have purchased, not to illegally sell or distribute copyrighted material. No one is going to go after you for making something you have purchased readable on your reader of choice. |

And Canada (as I linked in the post that someone laughed at but apparently didn't read) seems to be in the process of making laws protecting citizens right to do just that.

Also check out: http://www.bewrite.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT The gentleman from that site was giving complimentary books over the weekend - in Kindle format (other formats, too). |

Again, for your purposes drm removal is likely not required (though I'd certainly recommend doing it). As I stated before, it is extremely easy to buy books from the US amazon store while living in Canada.

I also live in Canada and when I go to the Amazon site I always go directly to the US site. I purchase my kndle books through them and have never supplied a US address and never been charged for wispernet usage. I keep seeing reference to 'having an US address" but so far have not seen why this is necessary. Free books also come through amazon.com for free - no charges. PS - now that I have a K3 I am often on WiFi - but if I am out and about whispernet still provides boks from amazon US - seemlessly and with no extra fees other than exchange

Stay away from Kobo! I'm the owner of a K3 and I have an iPad. I wanted to download library books so I bought a Kobo Wireless to supplement the K3.
I was not impressed with the Kobo..I had difficulty downloading the library books- they were the right format but it kept saying that they were "locked". I then found out about the Bluefire Reader for iPad so I contacted Kobo and they said they would give a full refund when they received the Kobo. FedEx delivered it to them on 11/24. Now, I'm aware there was a major holiday last week. Fine. But, their CS is a joke..you have to prod them to get any answers , they say someone will contact you later that day and then you have to prod them again a few days later. In contrast, on the couple of instances where I've had to contact Amazon about my Kindle, Amazon CS has been outstanding. I don't know about the Nooks CS..you can load library books on the Nook. I'd try them if the library books are a deal breaker. If not, then obviously I recommend the Kindle. |

as soon as you log in, it puts you into the kindle store based on the country of your address. just because you are at amazon.com (vs. amazon.ca) does not mean you are shopping in the US kindle store... You can tell easily enough - once you login and go to the kindle store, you should see 'Your Country or Region' towards the top left of the screen. If yours says United States, I am very curious how this can be with out a US address. |
