Just remember, if the wall wart is said to work and an Apple device, it most likely won't work for anything else.

After buying that stupid Belkin charger that didn't work with anything, I just bought the cheapest I could find in the supermarket for the equivalent of £4. It works and came with tips for different phones, mini usb, micro-usb and so on. I think it was ten tips. It's not slower than the Belkin, had that one worked. Both are rated 1A.

For those that might want to pickup an extra USB cable, I just received one that I purchased on e-bay for a $1.50 with free shipping in USA. It is listed as "MICRO USB DATA CABLE PALM PRE V9 LG enV2 DARE BB Storm". The link is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

While not a charger, it is charger related. It works with both my PC and a old Griffin power adapter I purchased in Jan 2008 for my IPod. Interestingly enough this charger will charge the Sony 650 while I continue to read. Here are the specs for the charger. Griffin AC Power Supply Model: 17B061001 Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 0.2A Output: 5.0V 500mA File NO: E213987 Date Code:07Sep |

I think the quick start guide mentions that it's not possible to read while it is connected to the computer, which infers that with a charger it's possible to read while charging.

I can do that on mine too with my supermarket charge. It seems to be a "feature", and honestly, there would be no point in locking it while using a charger as it doesn't interact with anything when charging from a wall wart. |

I suppose you can call it a "feature" but this has been standard on all sony's since at least the 505 (maybe the 500 as well but my 1st was a 505) and is one of the major points for having an external charger. Does the cable let you read whilst using with the PC?

I just checked on my PRS900. Same thing. I'll take your word for it that is has been like that for so long. Personally, it's behaving as I expected it to behave.

Do you, or anybody, else know if the power traveller micro usb tip will fit on the PSP type charger barrel to allow connection to charge the 650/350? |

Bummer, I can say my Nyko (3rd party) charger for Sony PS3 controllers doesn't work either. That seems odd, given I'm using the original 650's cable. But what happens is the screen shows as if USB-connected but it never switches over to charging.

It is not the cable that is the problem. It's the wall wart that is the problem. Seems the standard isn't a standard thanks to Apple.

The Nokia micro-USB Travel Charger (1200 mA) works fine.

I think that *all* chargers that comply to the "USB micro charger"-standard will work with the 650. There are also cheaper ones (Samsung and Hama) but they have a lower rating (500-700 mA). Last edited by rasbadar; 11-29-2010 at 01:53 PM. |
