Via VPN you find way more apps in the market. And when taking out your SIM, you find them all.
If you don't have access to the Android market, google for "android market". There are some alternatives. For example, I can access the AT&T US market that way.
When googling for "Android repository", you find alternatives. Similar to "Cydia" on iPhone/iPad.

Well, I don't have a SIM in my PocketBook IQ. So I doubt your instructions would work for me. I'll look into the alternative markets, though. Thanks for the tip.

If you don't have a SIM, it should be even easier. Then they only can track your location via IP and you can hide this via VPN.
Obviously, if you've got a SIM, they check your location additionally via the providers.

"VPN" is a feature you configure in the wireless settings.
(Don't know about your PocketBook IQ though).
Basically, it's a kind of proxy which simulates the IP of your choice.
For example, you can use an US IP, thus tricking the regional limitations.
As a paid service, I'm using PureVPN for example.
Via VPN, you can use apps like Netflix, Pandora and the likes.

For a "standard" Android unit, how to configure VPN is described here for example: http://forum.purevpn.com/showthread.php?t=746

Ah ok, so you're saying that you VPN to the US to get access to the Android Market? I suppose I won't have to do that since I'm already in the US. I'm still not understanding how I get to the official Android Market though...

Unfettered access to Marketplace can be achieved by either finding a standalone marketplace apk (they exist) for your version of Android or installing a hacked android environment into the Android emulator that comes with the SDK.

A thorough investigation of the various links in the Pocketbook IQ review (and the followup comments) at The Ebook reader blog (http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...t-impressions/) will lead you to several solutions. (Just don't forget you can email apks out of Android. )
Some might work better for you than others...
...at least until Google blocks that access...
...or responds to market demands and provides an open marketplace app.

That said, I suspect android marketplace access may be overrated as the most desirable apps are free and readily available with a bit of web hunting; between this and the alternate marketplaces the only thing you're likely to miss is commercial apps from developers unwilling to take advantage of the alternate distribution channels. And if they don't want your money...

Hi everyone,

Found this little article on The Digital Reader blog that could be of interest for this:

Here.

It would resolve some errors you have if you cannot install from alternate markets.

Also, AppBrain is another great alternative as well for apps.

I love AppBrain, but I'm pretty sure that it uses the Market for installing apps. That means no Market, no AppBrain.

Yep, you're right. I was looking into AppBrain as well. But I realized it does require official Market access...so it's a no-go for me.

not good. I am sure there should be a way to install the Market. Guess that is time for some research... Especially since the IQ is unrooted.

What's wrong with a simple google search? I haven't had any trouble finding any apk I've wanted via google. Want nook? Google nook.apk. Want YouTube? Google youtube.apk. Want Astro file manager? Google astro.apk. They're all out there .... you just have to work a little.

Nothing wrong with Google search... I guess it is just the geek in me trying to find a way to make it work.
