We have several pots of herbs (although the perennial basil turned out to be more tender that I'd hoped). The chilli plants died from frost, but the salad leaves in one of the pots they were in are flourishing. The hardy fucshias are happily flowering away. And the grass is recovering in the areas we cleared of other stuff earlier in the year.

But mostly we seem to have mud

Nothing. lol. We had some watermelons over the summer, but picked them too soon. lol. We tried to grow some pumpkins but it didn't work. My hubby had some other stuff out there, but nothing ever came from any of it.

No green thumbs in this family!

What's "frost"?

Seriously, my wife has some 20 or so orchids out on the stairs (ours is a second floor condo unit with outside stairs) and a couple tied to the palm tree of which about six are blooming. She also has 6-8 african violets blooming on the porch. The "cold" snap we has a couple of weeks ago (temps got down to a chilly 68F!!) didn't seem to bother them.

a perennial basil? I have trouble growing basil under almost any conditions. most everything else I do just fine with. basil is my nemesis
