It's mid-week.

We've been worried for most of November because of one of our cats.
He had surgery last week to remove a 2 inch diameter lump from his skin, leaving him with a 4 inch (or so) wound. The lump had no internal linkage.
He does not like wearing the collar. It was removed for a short while yesterday to allow him a bit more freedom. He didn't attack (he never has), but was violently opposed to me replacing it, and has since retreated away from us.

For some reason he also has a bad hind leg limp - though the vet does not know why.

Half-an-hour ago the vet rang and informed us the lump was cancer. He has other, smaller lumps that can be felt under his fur.

All the other cats have become quiet and are eager for more cuddles from my wife and I, than I can remember them doing for a while.

He is a wonderful cat, with a great character; and often followed us round on dog walks.
He's 11 and we've had his company over 9 years - his brother died of cat flu a few weeks after we had gotten them from Cat Protection.

Sorry if I've been missed these past few weeks....

Oh my, I'm so sorry your cat is so ill. I once had a cat with a kidney disease, had to hand feed it and give all kinds of medications. It just about broke our hearts when it died. It was one of the family; the neighbours came to look at her one last time. We also had it for 11 years. And that cat was so trusting till the end.

Well, hope you'll be able to cope. Hang on.

So, so sorry to hear this report - much loved pets truly are family members whose illnesses and loss cause heart-felt sadness among the 4-legged and 2-legged family members. Your entire family will need extra attention and love as you deal with this situation. You have my best wishes and utmost sympathy!

Really sorry to hear this Geoff.

We lost a cat in similar circumstances about 5 years ago now. We were all so upset that we haven't had any pets at all since then. We are now looking to get a couple of kittens though for the children's birthdays in February.

When my cat died on my lap after a long and painfull disease, I never wanted a cat again. We buried her in the garden, on her favorite sunplace, with a cat of stone of top of her.

After a year I said to the family (it was about Christmas): when that tree and all the decorations are gone, we will go to the animal-shelter to seek a new friend. That tree was un-decorated before you could say booh and within a day we had this lovely well-behaved Polly(on my avatar), who was instantly gratefull to be with us.

Geoffc, reading about your cat brought this back to me. I feel for you and hope it will end well for you and the cat.

Good for you! I'm still getting over the loss of my dog Barkley two years ago this Friday. I'm almost ready for another one. My two cats keep me company though....
