It just changed this week.
The Kindle is not available anymore for Europe until January.
Seems Amazon is not interested in an international Christmas and has just enough units to fulfill the US market.

Well, I guess that depends on where you are . In the United Kingdom, they do show in stock.....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002Y27P46

And why on earth would they limit themselves to the American market? That make no financial sense at all....

I think that I'm going to have to give Amazon CS a call again, I've just checked on my order and despite the order having been placed on the 16th November its status is still 'Not yet Shipped' I am going to have to tell them that my buddy desertblues has got his already, what gives? No doubt I will have some fun talking to the CS department in Ireland yet again.

Yes, according to UPS track&trace it's already in my town, but as it is sunday, it will be delivered tomorrow. Record speed of shipping: Friday/Sunday from USA-The Netherlands.

desertblues got her Kindle very quickly indeed; you notice that gumhead, who lives a lot closer to Amazon USA than desertblues does, is still waiting for his (hers?) too, so don't give up hope! Any chance you can call the USA customer service and see if they can help you out more quickly than the Irish CS department?

Thks; I almost couldn't believe it myself; that speed. And the replacement behaves itself.
But I also have ordered a 2nd Kindle, which won't be delivered till way after Christmas.

I phoned Amazon CS again and I definitely have to send it at my expense via courier, which I did today for $133, shortly afterwards I got a mail from Amazon saying that they will pass credit for that amount, fast and efficient service so far. I also spoke to them about my shipping date and that has been adjusted to somewhere around 29th November to 5th December, so a bit of a result all round today. The only down side is that they debited my credit card and will issue a refund in the next day or two, that's for the second time recently, poor old card has taken a bit of a hiding recently .
Cheers
Paul

Wonderful, sounds as if everyone that needed a replacement Kindle has received or will be getting their new Kindles in time for the holidays.

It really doesn't make sense that Amazon hasn't made a good stock of new (not replacement) Kindles available for their International market. You would think the holiday season world wide would be a good money-maker for them, because obviously, in this international forum at least, the Kindle is a sought-for item not only in North America but in many other parts of the world as well. It's really a shame for those who were hoping to buy one, either as a gift or for themselves, and receive it in a week or so but don't live in the USA or Canada.

Here in the US at least, you can order one today and expect to receive it by Nov 24th (if you pay for the expedited shipping) though you are limited in the number you can purchase:
Quote:
Due to strong customer demand, current quantity limit is 3 Kindle devices per customer
Amazon definitely has plenty of Kindles in stock so it's not a manufacturing/supply issue.

Holly

Edit - just read this thread - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=107763 - apparently there is a delay for shipping to Canada as well. Now this lack of Kindles for everywhere but the USA makes even less sense!!

Seems OK still in the UK. I just checked, and they're limiting UK purchases to a maximum of 3 Kindles per customer, but they'll be delivered in the normal 2-3 days from time of purchase.

So... just a guess, but I think maybe they're focusing on the locations where they have an active Kindle bookstore (US and UK), with fewer Kindles allocated to sales elsewhere?
