The tour was great. A lot of fun. Gave me a chance to make some excellent contacts and form new relationships. I can't wait to do it again next year, if all goes well.

I just started "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson, after finishing his latest book a few days ago. It's already got me hooked! I'm also reading "The Golden Ass" (in Latin), as well as a book of short stories by Garth Nix, "Across the Wall".

And now onto a freebie I picked up a while back. The Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb. It's fun so far. (1/6 of the way in.) The free version doesn't seem to be available any more. Last edited by pdurrant; 11-24-2010 at 09:46 AM. |

I finished the fifth book in the Pendergast series, Brimstone, last night. I think up to now it's my favorite in the series, although I hate books that end with a cliffhanger.
As not to get tired of the series I try to read one or two other books between them and I started James Patterson's The Murder of King Tut, but I soon got annoyed with the short chapters. At the beginning Patterson also claims he did a lot of research but I haven't been able to find that much evidence of it in the first quarter of the book. So I gave up for now. I'll probably finish it between other books but it's too annoying for me to read in one go. Going to start the next Pendergast, Dance of Death tonight. Hopefully it has got a good continuation to the previous book. |

I've been rereading a number of Stephenson books lately. Finished Cryptonomicon, Zodiac and Snow Crash. I love his story telling, but sometimes his endings are a bit huh?, though I did like the ending of Zodiac.

I'm about halfway through "Inside Out" by Barry Eisler, which I picked up from the library. Great so far! John Rain (his character from his other series) was mentioned once, and according to the author's website there's more later.

Just finished "Alternate Gettysburgs," an anthology of different stories on how the world's most famous battle might have turned out. Not all the stories deal with the battle itself; some deal with other events related to the battle such as a very different gettysburg address. Most interesting to me perhaps was William R. Fortschen's essay "Lee's Victory at Gettysburg...And Then What?" He questions the idea that a win at G'burg meant the South won the war - nonsense.

Just finished The Son of Man by C.W. Johnson, a free audiobook download from iTunes and thoroughly enjoyed it, although it took a few chapters to really hook me. It's a fast-paced action-adventure about people who get caught up in a scheme to clone Jesus from DNA residue found on artifacts. Meanwhile, astronomers discover that an asteroid larger than the one that killed off the dinosaurs is making a beeline for Omaha, Nebraska, and threatening to end the human race. I found myself really caring about these people and their fate. The ending was expected, but still well worth the ride. I just downloaded the second book in the series, The Son of Man Two: Elders of Zion from Smashwords and am looking forward to reading the continuation of the story.
In a similar vein (no pun intended), I'm also reading 33 AD by David McAfee; a novel that details the untold story of how the crucifixion of Jesus was really masterminded by a group of vampires in ancient Palestine. |
