Easily worth buying as such, don't get me wrong; but marketting it as a PB-reader without PB-reader *software* dilutes the brand equity built up by the eink readers. Pocketbook isn't just a brand, it's a platform, no?

And it is the known-quantity aspects of this platform that the reader family's reputation rests on. Anything that muddies these "known-quantity" aspects--the reputation for flexibility and stability--is going to detract from the brand's reputation for quality.

Just saying.

Clarification of the role of the IQ within the reader family is necessary for everybody's sake; ending up with disappointed/disaffected buyers out of miscommunication helps nobody.
The PB software really is not working very well right now, but it already has its strong points, like PDF compatibility, dictionary support and so on. I believe that the PB platform on the IQ will become a worthwhile alternative as we are going to develop it further.

I truly hope so.
On the eink readers it *is* a big plus.

But what I'm hearing is that anybody buying an IQ today should not expect a Pocketbook Reader experience, that it is *for now* an Android tablet that might *someday* equal the features of its sibling products. (Or it might not.)

Definitely worth buying on those terms, okay? :-)

But when I order I'll know not to count on anything beyond the generic android reader apps. I believe it is safest (mental health-wise) not to rely on future deliverables as part of the buy-no buy decision. If they show up, I'll be delighted but if they don't, I'll have no reason to be disappointed.

As I said, keeping things clear is best for everybody. :-D
(Now, to wait for the release firmware to get out so I can confidently order.)

The November 20 firmware has been released to dealers and they are loading it onto IQs before being shipped. So if you order an IQ now you'll get one with the Nov. 20 update on it.

And it is due to be uploaded to http://www.pocketbook-usa.com/support/pocketbook-iq/ (which is where the link you are given on bootup) any time. This weekend, Regina, the CEO of US operations, told me by Friday, and today a rep who called me on a different matter told me "any time now" as is sometime today. But it's almost 5PM local time, so I don't know if it'll make it today or not. But the manual is now posted, so anyone who would like to see the manual but does not have a unit (didn't want to say anyone doesn't have an IQ! )can get it at the same link.

mtravellerh, you stated elsewhere that 2.2 (Froyo) is being tested. Could I ask that you pass the files I attached here earlier for some quick feedback on whether the new Android version constitutes a quick fix to the internationalization issue with this version of FBReader software?

Thank you, and sorry if I have burdened you with my request.
