I was just watching your review of the PRS-950. I love your reviews and I can't wait to hear what you have to say about the Nook Color. (I keep spelling it Colour and then having to correct it.)

Sorry it took a while, but this is a long video (thus broken down into 2 parts). Here's my Nook Color video review.

The Nook Color is the first dedicated device I've considered buying (I read ebooks on a smartphone), exclusively because of its ability to deliver magazine content in an attractive, easy-to-use way. I like the display of the latest Kindle, nice and clear, good contrast... but the color display of the NC is great, and color magazines look and read wonderfully on its screen.

If you want a device that will be open to more content than just ebooks and a few newspapers, I'd go with the NC.

Excellent review, too! I see you can view docs in nested folders on the SD card... that'll make it easy to collect sets of magazines and organize them as you like (I was planning to break them down according to title and year).

This shows a lack of appreciation for the much superior software in the NOOKColor. The NOOKColor is much more than a kindle + color and better by far than any of the andriod/ios version of the readers.
  • The book view on the home row is great and you can organize it.
  • you can drag books to any of three home pages.
  • It keeps track of your last three viewed books, magazines and documents and with a couple of touchs you can switch between them.
  • it is lightning fast.
  • adjusting margins, intra-line distance, font, size and color is one touch away and presents more options than any of the other readers.
  • The shelf interface is great and works very well.
  • the shop interface is so much nicer with full touch.
  • the pixels per inch surpass any reader out there today. It also crushes every tablet's LCD except the galaxy tab.
  • Rooted it can run most andriod apps.
  • the Nook SDK is out and the NOOK marketplace will be released in 2011.
  • The Magazine support is excellent and vastly superior to anything else I have seen.
  • I expect a similar comic book/graphic novel app to be released in the marketplace.
  • The full capacitative touch interface is superior to the clunkly keyboard/rocker switch of the kindle.
  • the dictionary lookup is activated by touching a word for 2 seconds and can also look up words on wikipedia and google. If you missed the word you wanted you just drag your finger around until it gets the right word. It is quite nicely done.
  • Notes and highlights are activated the same way as the dictionary lookup and very intuitive.
  • Only the NookColor allows you to highlight a passage and publish the quote on FB/Twitter. It is nicely done.
  • It plays music, as do many players.
  • Unlike the kindle it has an SD card slot.
  • It plays movies, quite well as a matter of fact.
  • the PDF support is excellent and better than any other reader at this point. Color in PDFs is pretty normal, as are graphics and tables.
  • the web browser allows you to write to the device. This allows you to browse the web for your document, and save it to view on the device.

And I expect that tablet devices similarly priced with similiar features that are not locked will be released sometime soon.

I don't bother comparing the Kindle to the Nook Color because they are different devices that do different things.

The Kindle is an e-reader with some experimental features that are nice extras if you use them. It does what it is suppose to do very well. It reads books and allows me to organize them, highlight in them, annotate them, and the battery lasts forever. It is priced nicely and has access to the best e-book store in the country.

The Nook Color is a tablet with an LCD screen that does its job well. If someone wants an LCD screen and wants to be able to watch video and do 9000 other things then the Nook Color is a great option. And in the not so distant future there will be tablets that do everything the Nook Color does and then some for the same price.

If I were to compare the Nook Color to anything it would be the IPad and I have a sneaking suspicion that the only thing that the Nook Color would win on would be price.
