I have the K3 Wi-Fi and just bought a Nook Color. One thing about lcd reading, there are multiple color schemes you can set for your books, white background, dark gray background with white text, light gray background, sepia background, off-white (butter) background, and mocha (light brown) background with white text. Also you can lower the brightness quite nicely.

Add in little things like just a tap in the upper right corner of the screen sets your bookmark and the INSTANT page changes with a swipe of the finger and I can say this is a pretty nice device!

Not bad. I wonder if all these colors can alleviate the pain inherent in reading on LCD.

I've been able to read comfortably in any setting by tweaking the background color and adjusting brightness. Plus, you can adjust the spacing between lines! Icing on the cake. It's very satisfying as an eReader.

actually with some brightness adjusting and some background color change it's actuall quite nice to read. The text is the sharpest I've seen on any display including the iPad.
BN did a great job on this

Can't say I've experienced any pain reading LCD's but I know some people do. I set the page background to light gray with black text then drop the brightness down to around 20-25 percent and it looks amazing. Oh, and the brightness can be accessed right from the page of the book you're reading with two taps, and you can still see the page while adjusting it too. Makes it so easy to adjust!

Crank the brightness to 100 percent and you could likely guide ships at sea by night. It's like a beacon it's so bright.

I wouldn't say that reading on an LCD automatically is painful. There are plenty of folks who read on LCD screens without any problems. There are other folks who find themselves with headaches and tired eyes after reading on an LCD screen.

If the OP does not have problem reading off of an LCD screen then the Nook Color is a viable option.

I am highly biased in favor of the Kindle. I enjoy its simplicity and that I can get books any where. I enjoy its battery life, having a device that lasts the entire flight from DC to Sydney, priceless. I enjoy its weight. I enjoy the customer service. I enjoy the bookstore.

Personally, I don't read books or magazines that need color so paying $250 for a color tablet that I can read books on makes little to no sense for me. To be frank, paying $250 for a locked tablet makes little or no sense to me. I get that it is a nice screen but it is a locked table. Why not wait for a similarly priced tablet that is not locked? That way you can download multiple apps and enjoy access to many book stores.

I like that my Kindle uses e-ink. I spend a lot of time staring at a computer screen at work and at home (playing video games). I find my eyes are tired by the end of the day and that it is easier to read on the Kindle then an LCD screen.

I don't want a device that is backlit because it is more difficult to read outside with the device. I enjoy going to the beach and camping. Reading outside with an LCD device requires finding the right angle or a shady spot which is a pain in the wazoo. I have chuckled more then once watching IPad users try and move their devices around to find the right angle so that they can read.

I like the lighter weight of the Kindle to a tablet. It is easy to hold in one hand which comes in handy when commuting or reading in bed holding hands with my hubby, or giving him a light back rub, or petting a puppy dog, or drinking a nice cuppa tea.

I love Amazon's bookstore. I have only had one book I was interested in buying not be available and that was due to the Amazon/Penguin dispute. It was available a month later, no biggie.
