Or using wall charger. I agree.

Reader <--> public_server And another one: Reader <--> desktop_app <--> public_server Which one sounds better? All complaints are from that middle step. People fail to sync since versions dismatch. Or they have books from more than one source and have to use more than one desktop app. Every app makes it's own rules and writes them to the reader. Some- thing like desktop converter would be fine. The result should be put to the device. I only speculate on the subject, cause I put books on it by the hand. |

Kobo does not ship with a wall charger, but my HTC Android cell phone charger works and it appears that Blackberry ones do, too.

It seems to me that folks figure out how they want to do things like syncing and library management. There is no right or wrong and people often change their routine as they get more comfortable with the reader or their needs change.
My husband does not want to do anything more complex than attaching his Kobo-O and syncing over the desktop application. I have our networked computers set-up so that books in Calibre on my machine are automatically mirrored on Calibre on his computer, but, as far as I know, he never looks there (he really should because I have some goodies that were purchased from a source other than Kobobooks...). He's made that choice not because he is stupid or unsophisticated or tech-challenged. In fact, he's a very smart techie type who simply does not want to be bothered with all of that after spending his working hours at a computer. He just wants an easy way to get fiction onto his reader without a hassle. I, on the other hand, like to fiddidle around with technology--it's a welcome change from my life as a social worker by day. Months can go by without my opening the Kobo desktop and I only sync there when I have purchased something not available as an ePUB file. I manage my library using Calibre making use of plugins and recipes etc. In truth, he should have the WiFi version, and I should have the original Kobo. Different people, different preferences. it's all good... |

BUG 1.7.4 DESKTOP
Arrange books using the "Date Last Opened" sort pull-down, and then shut the application down. Then after restarting the application, the books are sorted by "Title", even though the pull-down still shows "Date Last Opened". To force the books to actually sort as "Date Last Opened", you have to toggle the pull-down from "Title" back to "Date Last Opened". ltr |

Thanks for the update from 1.7.4 to 1.7.5 Kobo. Now the app no longer updates every book when I click update library...much better. However, it still re-syncs all my books onto the Kobo when I click sync. I've got a lot of books on there, so it takes a long time to re-sync when I only want to download the new book I bought. I've got an original Kobo with firmware 1.4 btw. Anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks for the confirmation ltr.
I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly 1.7.5 came out. Like we've noticed, it fixed the update library bug. Yet I'm still questioning what's going on with the sync feature. It seems that when I sync to the Kobo it downloads ALL books and even resets the bookmark on some, but not all, books. This makes for a very long wait whenever I wish to buy and download a single book, not to mention messing up the bookmarks of those I'm currently reading. Could this possibly have anything to do with having an original Kobo with only firmware version 1.4? I wonder if the application updates are therefore geared toward the newest firmware. If that's the case, I'm really hoping the firmware update for us originial owners is coming soon, because the only thing the application updates have done so far is mess up many of the features that once worked flawlessly! Ahhh...the joys of being an early adopter.... Last edited by jimr; 11-21-2010 at 11:46 AM. |
