Yes, it looks like 1.7.4 downloads all books again every time I click on "Update Library". With 1.7.1 it would only do that if I signed out and then signed back in again (so I never signed out in order to avoid that !) |

It would seem that 1.7.4 updates your entire library every time the Update Library button is selected. Not a particularly good idea. ltr

OK--I am confused. When I choose update library from the Kobo WiFi running 1.7.4 all it does it check for changed bookmarks. It did download books that were bookmarked in I'm Reading on the desktop or the I'm Reading page on the Kobo site the first time I did it, but after that, nope. Update library works exactly like it has in the past. Did you shut off the reader in between the times you updated? The processing thing that happens every time you start the reader up again seems important for many different things. |

I'm just talking about the desktop application by itself. Every time you click the Update Library in 1.7.4, the entire library of books I have purchased updates. Previous versions simply checked if there had been any changes between the desktop applications library and the web site purchases. It only took a second. ltr

OK. I can't speak to that as I have a beta version of the 1.8 desktop, not 1.7.4. Updates/sync on the 1.7.4 WiFi device work fine.

It took me time to get it was all about wifi version of reader. The very idea of having it wireless is to avoid any kind of desktop interface. So, I would go further with that. Why one has to use computer anymore, if he/she could upgrade via kobo public server? Regarding book synchronization, more ways to sync particular book, more ways to make trouble. If there is one db kind, all other might catch on it. They chose sqlite. K. Use it. Add a perl/python layer and script occasions. Why on planet Earth versions 1.7 and 1.8b do not work the same? The basics have to be the same, if one wants the device to be stable. |

If you have to charge the battery, why not download a book at that time. I don't see much use for the wireless myself if you use the reader in the home. ltr

i want to download the 1.7.4 firmware and desktop app but neither seems to be updating. my current firmware is 1.7.1, and desktop app is 1.7.3. but in the past both used to automatically prompt me when an update is available as long as i am connected wirelessly. However it doesnt seem to be doing it for me now? am i supposed to update to 1.7.4 a another way? or is it not yet out for me here (I am in hong kong). thanks! |

Just start the desktop app on your PC and it will prompt you that there's a new version. ltr |
