What have they won?

Have you looked at the bill that our current two wars have racked up?

Have you considered how the "Department of Homeland Security" has consolidated our multiple branches of bureaucracy into one monolithic government agency that is so ponderous that disasters like Katrina turn out worse than they would have been before it's formation?

Have you considered how, not only the PATRIOT Act, but many other laws, big and small, constrict our freedoms and liberties more and more each day?

Have you considered how our country has become morally bankrupt with the practice of torture and our own brand of terrorism. (I refer specifically to the use of Predator drones to target "suspected" terrorists in Pakistan.)

The terrorists have won because we are abandoning our principles to gain safety. The terrorists have won because we are bankrupting ourselves monetarily, spending untold billions on dubious measures against a minor threat. Suppose one passenger flight goes down, is this going to cripple our country any more than the actions we have taken to protect ourselves?

Every day we allow our policies to be driven by the agenda of terrorists is a day the terrorists have won.

No, no not really.

You might be misunderstanding me, I don't give a damn about the security measures as an individual act, I object strongly to the mentality that it is engendering in the populace. "we're all going through the same thing", did the Jews think this as they walked through the gates?

"Working together towards a common goal"? What goal is that? Preserving our way of life? Guarding our liberty?

Do you really think our government has learned from it's own history? Do you seriously doubt that there is a department somewhere in Homeland Security that has a list of every descendant from Arab nations? Do you believe that they don't have a list of every practicing Muslim in our country? Do you doubt that if the threat appears big enough they won't act on those lists?

The Rule of Law has been ignored by our country and we are all in far worse danger from that than from a bunch of raggedy terrorists with badly made bombs in their underwear.
