Wasn't a fan but I just recently found out Robert Smith played guitar for them.

Yes, on Hyæna, and the live album Nocturne. Excellent stuff. Smith's playing on Night Shift (Nocturne) is nightmare and orgasm inducing!

I saw them play one night back in '79 or '80 at a small venue in London. Great gig. I never really followed through with the albums though.

Well, The Scream is well ahead of Join Hands, I think. That second album seemed a bit formless; there were a few tracks that started well, but overall it felt mostly hammered out on one level. The Scream seemed to have more depth, and I ended up wanting to revisit it.

These are of course, just first impressions.

A seminal British punk act emerging in the late 70s. I remember Siouxsie as being someone determined to follow her own musical path regardless of the way general musical tastes were evolving, but I confess I didn't follow her on through the 80s to see where she ended up!
