I'm convinced that it's not so much the country that causes the G.I. Blues as it is our own habits dealing with water. Most of the places we regularly travel require bottled water, even for teeth brushing. Some places require that we purchase that bottled water only from reliable sources, and not from street vendors.
Of course, as I really love street foods, I need to be sure that these are cooked while I wait, rather than taking something that was cooked last week and left sitting in the sun. When buying fruit on the street, I'll buy it unpeeled and peel it myself, as the vendors often wash their knives in less than clean water. Add to this... I pray a lot. But just in case, I have learned to say "Imodium" in seven languages. Stitchawl |

not food, but a cooking device, I picked up a food pod recently and it is a handy (and goofy looking) little gadget! I loaded it with cut potatoes and garlic last night to make garlic mashers, and it was pretty neat! when the spuds were done, I just pulled out the pod, poured everything into the bowl I was going to use for the mashers and mashed away! they have a bunch of other interesting looking cooking toys as well!

Not only passed, but passed well! 97 out of a possible 100.
![]() They gigged me three points because on one turn I only had two fingers on the break lever instead of four. It took me 6 attempts which, for Americans used to American testing and passing on the first try, was humbling, the Japanese national average is 10+ attempts before passing. 23 people challenged the test yesterday, and only one passed. We partied hearty last night, pigging out on Kobe beef. I think I spent next month's rent check on beef, chocolate, and champagne! Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 11-17-2010 at 06:41 PM. |

The supermarkets are selling all sorts of silicon cooking gizmos these days, some of which I can't even identify! ![]() I even saw a silicon tajine lid. That must go over big in Morocco. I see tajines being sold all over the place these days too, even single serving sized ones, probably made especially for Japan! Stitchawl |

Brazilian Mokeka! That's what I want for dinner tonight! With a bottle of Matuse! (Well, the Matuse is Portuguese, but that's what they speak in Brazil anyway, so it's O.K.)
A nice 15-minute meal with almost no prep work. I can live with that! Stitchawl |
