Its easy to replace the battery on a Kindle 1. You're not supposed to open the Kindle 3. Most devices allow you to replace the battery if you open it, its just whether it is easy to do and whether it is still covered by warranty afterwards that is the issue.

I could be wrong but Best Buy has said it will sell 10 Nooks for $99 starting in the early morning hours. So you have to get to a Best Buy really early to get that deal. It is possible that this has been extended and that all Nook's will be $99 on Black Friday but the only flier I have seen says that it is a limited quantity.

You're buying faulty or badly made equipment if the electrolytic capacitors inside are drying out within 2 years.

The flash is internal and soldered to the PCB. You'd have to really be extreme with your writes to the flash anyway to actually wear it out enough that it would affect you. The flash chip does wear leveling so no single area of the flash is overwritten excessively more than the rest of the flash.

Lithium batteries start to age the moment they're manufactured. It won't keep indefinitely and especially not if you're not topping up the charge periodically. If you're storing a Lithium battery then the optimum charge for it is around 60% if you want maximum life.

One of the nice features of the K1 is that you can still strip and convert .tpz files that are sent to the K1. On the later Kindles Amazon has changed the firmware so this isn't possible at present.

I keep a K1 just for that reason.

Huh? What prevents you from doing that on a K3?

If you actually know (and trust) the guy selling the K3, go for it.

FYI this nonsene about batteries not being replacable in K2/K3/DX/DXG, it takes about 30 seconds to get inside without damaging the case, all you need is a small, hard plastic prytool and it comes right off (pop the antenna cap off on the DX, pop the side snaps off on the K3) battery can be had at with some normal screws.

You can find replacement batteries online cheap.

wow, a lot of replies since I last seen this ha.

I mean is the nook any good? I remember when it came out, and I played with it in the store I was not impressed. It seemed like a delay when turning pages (of course firmware could have fixed this).

Is the barnes and Noble store cheap like Amazon? a lot of Free books? I mean 99 bucks is a deal so mmm. But if it is one of those get there at 5 deals, maybe not.

Though wonder why Best Buy does not have their Black Friday ad on their site yet.

I don't go into the nook forums anymore (not since they finally rolled them out), so I cannot speak for how many people have said they are returning their kindle in favor of a nook. on the other hand, I have seen quite a few people stating they are returning a nook for a kindle.

everybody's opinions and needs differ. at this point I would say you probably need to go look at both first hand

I just went on Kindleboards, and saw a lot of people saying they bought the nook cause of the price drop.

Now I have an offer for the nook for $100 in my hands today. Wifi only. but I see on B&N's website the Wifi and 3g model is only $119 free shipping. That is REALLY tempting.

Now it is al about my patience lol.
