Well organized list there, Mr Red. I agree with your comment on customer service, too.

I'm also finding that my kobo won't remember how I want my books organized, i.e. that I want to see them sorted by author, not title. It remembers while sleeping, but not while off. When it powers down, it always defaults back to Huck Finn as its first title under "Books". I had assumed that it was just like that, but now I'm realizing that's actually a glitch.

Glad to hear 1.8 will be out in the near future; looking forward to better functionality!

Why does anyone even turn the power off? Does powering your Kobo off really save the battery life? I let mine sleep all the time (haven't tried powering off even once), and everything seems fine except a problem I've had with showing an incorrect % read when sleeping. My battery only lasted a week on its first charge, so maybe I should be powering off instead of sleeping?

I asked that question myself, so I have been doing an experiment, that you can see here.

I'm now in my 8th day and the charge still indicates full, so I would say power off will win the test.

Alot of us don't have a choice as the latest firmware doesn't give us one. The reader will automatically power down if you press the powerbutton regardless of length.

Well I am glad I found this forum. I was beginning to think I had a defective Kobo and was going to take it back to Chapters. Looking forward to the fix... but seriously... end of the year?

Considering that the WiFi has only been out for, what, a month?, and they only discovered that glitch after users commented on it, that's still doing pretty good, I think (especially since the end of the year isn't that far away any more).

Battery life is increased dramatically by shutting it off, at least in my experience. Previous to the last two weeks, I had been just letting it go to sleep, and I'd get about a week of battery power while reading well under the number of pages they say I should be able to.

Over the last two weeks, I've faithfully shut down the kobo instead of going to sleep, and when I've had some downtime, I've been either reading, or just cycling through pages of a book, to get the as many pages as I could through. So far, the the charge has lasted over 10 days (11 days and counting), and I've been able to cycle at least 4000 page turns. The battery is coming close to requiring a recharge however, so I'm sure I won't get the number of page turns they say I should (between 8K and 10K), but it's at least lasting past the number of days they mentioned.

Once I've charged up again, I'm going to try going back to the sleep mode and see if there's been an improvement, but I'm not expecting it; The kobo is running power when it goes into sleep mode, however minimal it may be, there is still a drain. while I can get get close to two weeks with it powered off, I'm not expecting it in sleep mode anymore.

cheers!
Steph S.

I wonder - does anyone really need the charge to last more than a couple of days? I'm more likely to forget to charge it, or even check the battery, if it's not a near-daily habit. Since you can't read while you're sleeping, can't you charge it then? Would you really take a trip without a charger? What if something accidentally is pressing on the buttons, for example in a handbag or suitcase, and drains the battery? I'd be lost without my books while traveling!!!

An AC adapter for the USB charger is very handy. I use my iPhone's, but they're readily available for purchase. I also have a battery that is designed for Blackberry and I believe that will charge the Kobo, though I haven't needed to try.

I know, it is just a rather annoying bug.

As an aside but quite related BUG. Last night I went to power down my K2 when I went to bed. I hit the power button expecting it to power off but instead it decided to go to sleep. I figured what the heck and just left it figuring it will power down after 15mins anyway. Nope it didn't, it was still in sleep mode 8 HOURS later. Now I'd rather have a longer sleep mode than the 15mins, but 8 hours is a little more than I need

I had noticed this before but really didn't pay much attention as it had only been about 20-25mins and I just assumed I was wrong about the time at the time.

The kobo 2 won't go into a power off mode after a sleep mode; it will stay in sleep mode until you wake it.

quite honestly, I can be a bit forgetful (that whole age thing starting to set in..), and I've been known to forget to plug in my Blackberry when I know my charge is almost depleted, leaving me without the next day. that said, I usually will wait until I need to charge because most (all?) rechargable batteries have a limited amount of charge cycles before they won't keep a charge anymore, and this becomes even more important when you're not able to easily replace the battery of the device, and the device costs a couple hundred bucks .
