I don't have an anti-virus either
All you need is a firewall, and be carefull. Don't downlod crap, beware of usb stick used in an "unsafe" computer all that.
And keep windows (or iOs or Linux) up to date

Not really true. A firewall does not protect against malicious programs that are downloaded. (unless your definition of a firewall is different than mine).

Crap is not always easily definable.

Went into Windows and there are nineteen pages of people trying to get rid of it.

If you have malwarebytes loaded, it will remove that particular virus.

I use it weekly......free, of course. Be sure to do an "update" each time you use it......

I've run into that one here a few times and MalwareBytes doesn't always work with it. The one thing I've found that does is comboFix, I've not had it not work yet.

I looked like something the cat drug in, wet, covered in mud, scratched by blackberry vines and the holly tree, but I have a functioning well with more water pressure that I have had in years, and WATER!!!!

Yeap, hence the "be carefull with what you are downloading".
avoid unknown software.
get software from editor's website, not somewhere else.
keep clear of warez / torrent and other.

True, but that doesn't preclude it happening and the best defense is to have a professional and up to date virus checker.

I use Norton 360. Last month I was searching for a book cover using Google Image Search. I found what looked like a decent image of the cover. When I clicked on the link the website tried to take over Firefox and install software on my computer. Thankfully, Norton blocked it and no harm done, but it shows you don't have to visit obviously shady websites or do illegal downloads to be at risk.

I don't. I have Firefox and Chrome installed here. Performance is roughly equivalent.

An advantage of Chrome is keeping each tab in a separate thread, which means that a problematic site doesn't drag down the whole browser. Firefox is moving in the direction, with a plugin container program to handle things like Adobe PDF viewing as a child process.

The fun part is if you add Chrome extensions. Each extension becomes a separate process. Add any number of extensions, and watch your Chrome memory requirements balloon. (Fire up Process Explorer, Install extensions in Chrome, and watch.)

Firefox addons become part of the main Firefox process, and don't have anywhere near the memory impact.

Xmarks isn't gone. As of last word, they were in discussions to be acquired by someone with deeper pockets, who would continue the free service and offer an optional payware premium service. See http://blog.xmarks.com/

Yes, totally serious. The only thing on it is the built in Windows Defender... which I think is basically anti-malware not anti-virus.
