If you already have a sizable epub collection and access to the Amazon store/wireless wanted, then I would recommend a Sony hands down. Especially since it seems you don't want a physical keyboard but do want to take notes. After that, the big difference will be the screen size (which is why I would opt for a 650) and reader size.

I own a Kindle because of access to the Amazon store (and it allows me to easily share books with my non-tech mom who also owns a Kindle). But I prefer the form factor of my Sony and have found that's the read I use most often.

It's the extra reading real estate I liked on the 650. It has almost twice the visual space of the 350, but is still pretty compact.

At the same time, the 650 is smaller overall than the K3. And it seems to me that the "touch" feature is nicer for navigation and page turning.

I must say, though, that my DX has rapidly become my favorite EBR simply because of the screen size. It would be great if I could fold in half to transport!

is this true? does the one inch actually equate to having a screen double in size? that is a math question, can someone answer it for me?

I think a one inch diagonal increase from 5" to 6" is more like 25% screen size. The thing is both screens are 800x600 (according to the specs) so they have the same number of pixels.

I know don't know the formula, but for instance I know the 9.7 dx screen is 2.5 times larger then the 6 inch kindle (according to amazon).

1" increase in diagonal equates to approx 0.5" increase in breadth and 1" increase in height

My 300 screen is 3 x 4 inches, meaning 12 square inches of screen.

My 505 is 3.5 x 5 inches, meaning 17.5 square inches of screen.

So the 505 has nearly 50% more screen real estate than the 300.

I believe that the 350 & 600 have the exact same size screens.

But the important thing is the psychological effect. I went over to Borders today, taking my 300. The 350 is smaller than the 300, but the screen is the same size, so the 350 seems to have more reading room, relative to the overall size. And the 650 is not much larger than my 300, so that the amount of screen seems much greater.

When you hold the 300/350 by the 505/650, the latter are clearly larger, but not hugely larger. But when you look first at the smaller one, then turn your eyes away to the larger one, the increase in screen size seems - at least to me - much larger than it measures.

I must say, that little 350 is a neat pocket reader. If I wanted one EBR to carry around with me as much as possible, that would be the one. Won't fit in tight jeans, but would in pants or shorts with reasonable pockets.

Of course they have pixels. E-Ink is a brand name, and E-Paper is a marketing term that sounds much more attractive to consumers than "monochrome display" (My Game Boy from 1990 had that!) or "electrophoretic display" (Wha?). It doesn't have the RGB subpixels that you'll find make up a standard backlit color LCD, but it still has a pixel grid.

I "downgraded" from a 6" screen (505 and 600) to the 350, and I don't even notice the smaller screen. Turning pages isn't a big deal to me, and I love the portability of the 350. SO much smaller than the K2 or K3.

The 350 all the way. I think every reader should be touchscreen. Everything is just a tap away.

You are measuring corner to corner. I am measuring each side, & obtaining the square inches of surface on each EBR.

The 350 measures 5 inches on the diagonal, 3 x 4 on the sides, and has 12 square inches of surface.

The 650 measures 6 inches on the diagonal, 3.5 x 5 on the sides, and has 17.5 square inches of surface.

In terms of surface area, the 650 is about half again the size of the 350, or the 350 is two-thirds the size of the 650.

Apples & oranges, and, I suppose, grapes.

I entirely agree. If the 350 were wireless and could download books from Amazon, I'd get one yesterday, and wouldn't bother with the K3.

Despite being entrenched in the Kindle ecosystem, I'm hanging on to my 300, just to have something to throw in my pocket when I know I'm going to have some wait time somewhere. You just can't do that with a K3.

Question is, what to put on the 300? Short story collections, I think. Small reading for a small EBR.
