I try to avoid books in unfinished series, but I usually break down and start the first one before the last one(s) are written.

If I knew a book was intended as a trilogy but had yet to release the second/third part, I don't think it would change me deciding to read it. Eagerly awaiting a new book is something I rather enjoy.

I buy'em when I see'em The only one that bit me was the third book (The Great Game series by Dave Duncan) that the publisher never printed it in paperback. The Author apologised, the book was now OP. Last year, I bought the e-version from Webscriptions (nothing like waiting a decade or more to finish a series) |

It doesn't really matter to me. I've started series books before the last books were out. I only have time to read on my lunch breaks, anyway, so by time I'm done, the whole series will be out anyway.

I wait unless it is an author that I really like and want to support. Like Timothy Zahn or Tad Williams...

I started on second series of Roger Zelazny's Amber. I knew the last book won't be out though |

In my genre, if I waited for a series to be finished before I started reading it I would never get to read it! |

I buy them as they are available nearly every time. I have been burned, sometimes I bought the first book of a series and it was also the author's first published book. More than once I have never seen book 2. But it is only temporarily annoying and you can always speculate what happens to the characters yourself. I have reread partial series more than once and in general though I may be eager for the next book I won't deprive myself of a good read if the next books aren't available. |

For me, each book of the trilogy needs to stand on it's own merits. I read them as I get them and if a book requires another book I dump the series. If the author really wants to write one huge book, then do it. Don't write it and then publish it in pieces.

I prefer to have all the books available, then I read them one by one. If I don't do this and there's a long wait between books I lose the thread of the story. Then I have to refer back to the blurb to refresh my old memory. Mag. |

I prefer to have them all available and I check out the geographical restrictions very carefully. Started one series only to have the last book unavailable to me due to geographic restrictions.

I never intentionally wait. I have no problems with pausing in a book for some months, so the wait between books hardly ever bothers me. And I have a lot more experience with stopping with series because I lost interest than in a series stopping because the author stops or dies. |

I'll start reading because I usually only find out it's part of a series after I finish the first book |
