I just finished Mockingjay, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I really liked that trilogy! I finished the book in very short order. I have a bit of a headache from nonstop reading, actually

I'm reading "Books: A Memoir" by Larry McMurtry, which I picked up as a remainder at B&N, and I have to say it's not very good. Isn't this guy supposed to be a great writer? Each chapter is max three pages long and he's jumping around so much it's making my head spin. It does make me want to go to his bookstore though. |

I flew (in a plane) up to Long Island this weekend for my brothers wedding so I had quite a bit of reading time.
I finished _The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo_... I really like this book. A good story that kept moving and kept me interested. I then started reading _White Seed, The Mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke_ ( I think is the correct title). The book is an ok read so far... but nothing seems to be happening. So, I bought _DEAD(ish)_ since many here raved about it, and I've got to say, for me, it was a "meh". A bit too much profanity for me. I mean, I'm ok with profanity here and there... but f* this and f* several times a page... I guess is not just for me. I had no idea I was such a prude. Perhaps I just didn't get some of the humor. I mean does a dead girl have nothing better to do? I also bought and started _To Darkness and to Death_... the 4th book of Julia Spencer-Fleming's Clare Fergusson novels. I really like these Cozys. A good setting and I like the characters she has created. If you like Cozy's give the first book, _In the Bleak Midwinter_ a try. Now... off to update library thing. I tried Books after reading McMurtry's decent non-fiction offering Roads, and gave up fairly early on.

Ok, I'm a reading fool today, I guess, because I just finished "Descending" by Catherine Chisnall. Granted, it was only 85 pages, epub.
![]() I saw it had received a lot of 5-star ratings (some suspicious) and I really don't get it. I was relieved to see at least one other person thought like me. Maybe I'm a little nuts, but I want more emotion in an intense storyline. |

Yesterday I finished Fall of Giants by Ken Follett and started Fred Saberhagen's The Dracula Tapes which I am really enjoying. In it Dracula tells his side of the story, often quoting Stoker's original.
I've always liked books that tell the other side of the story of a well known novel. I love Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea, which tells the story of Jane Eyre's mr Rochester's first wife who we only get to know as the mad woman in the attic. I know the BBC made a mini-series for BBC 3 or 4, which we didn't have at the time, but it hasn't been released to dvd (yet). Last edited by Rumpelteazer; 11-15-2010 at 06:50 AM. |

I just finished "The Way of Kings" last night. It really picked up in the last 200 pages. I finished the last page and thought to myself "I can't wait for the next installment".
I just started "Dexter in the Dark". I'm really enjoying the Dexter series. There was a huge book fair in Croatia's capital this week, and I stocked up on good old p-books (all in Croatian). I am reading "Hod Kroz Godinu" by Vitomir Belaj, a very interesting book on Slavic mythology. It's really a shame that it hasn't been translated into English. Maybe I'll make that my next project... |

Painfully read 400 pages (out of 1200) of the Reality Dysfunction by Peter F. Hamilton and just stopped when the reality became way too dysfunctional for my taste.
That book is terrible I don't even know why I started it and kept going that long. Most notably gratuitous extreme violence and sex, I'm not easily disturbed but my...this is some sadistic stuff and reading some pages felt like pure masochism. Add to that poor character descriptions/depth, 20 sub-plots (oh, you liked this character? Wait 10 chapters and you might hear from him again..)and in the end nothing and no one you really care about. The nail in the coffin was the "reality dysfunction" which occurs at a third of the book, hello Satan/dead people, goodbye Peter F. Hamilton. Only positive side was the epic proportions, which can't really be said about my current read The Old Man's War ![]() ![]() |
