Crab cakes! Good old fashion Chesapeake Bay Crab cakes with a piles of tartar sauce! This one's easy! I only have to reproduce the Old Bay Seasoning.

Old Bay Seasoning is always in my pantry. A list of ingredients on the side of the can may inspire you.
Quote:
Celery Salt (Salt, Celery Seed). Spices (Including Mustard, Red Pepper, Black Pepper, Bay [Laurel] Leaves, Cloves, Allspice [Pimento], Ginger, Mace, Cardamom, Cinnamon) And Paprika.

Thanks! I've got all of these in my spice cabinet already. I also found a recipe in one of the 'Secrete Recipes of Brand Names' to give me the amounts so to balance it, so I'm all set for dinner tomorrow night!

Err... ummm.... ahh... the cookbook? Oh, you mean the cookbook, right? Well, the cookbook... THE cookbook... Actually, the 'essense' of the cookbook is already completed. That is, creating the 'concept' of 'cookbook,' rather than just creating any old cookbook, but the very 'nature' of the idea OF cookbook has already been finished and all we are waiting for is the actualization of that concept in this present day reality which we call 'here and now.'

I'd tell you more but I have to go and take my riding test.

Damn... thinking about the book as I fell asleep last night must have prompted my dreams. I woke up drooling for 'Chinese Paper Chicken!' Easy enough to make, but I'm out of cooking parchment. This means a run into Osaka to the kitchen supply district to buy some. They don't sell it in the supermarkets around here, and I don't care for the taste when it's made with aluminum foil.

Sheesh... you're like the "Princess and the Pea" of taste buds!

Whoops, did I say that out loud? What I MEANT to say was that you are obviously a man of (with?) very discriminating tastes! I am one of those people who, when blindfolded, would probably mis-identify scrambled eggs as liver or something. You've probably never used a paper towel as a coffee filter either, huh?

Yes... and no.
While I insist that my steak be seasoned with freshly ground pepper, I am just as delighted by a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese from McD's!
I like it all!

Almost. I'd say, rather than discriminating, the word 'selected.' I'm willing to try anything and don't ascribe to critic's recommendations. 'Fast Food' is just as welcome to me as fine cuisine. That said, I can and do discriminate between a Hebrew National Hot dog and one made by Oscar Myer, or a pizza made with cheddar cheese and one made with mozzarella.

Certainly have (well, as a tea bag. I don't drink coffee.) I eat rat-on-a-stick sold by street vendors in Vietnam and God-knows-what sausages sold by street vendors in Borneo. But when I cook for myself or others, I want the flavors to be exactly what I want them to be if I can do it. A touch of fresh tarragon really brightens up a tuna sandwich but I'll use dry tarragon if I absolutely must.

Wanna come over for dinner?

Well....we're not having rat-on-a-stick, are we? I'm a pretty adventurous taster/eater, but that might put me off a little bit.

(And I DO want this cookbook that you're working on for us, too!)

LOL! No... I don't cook it myself. It's just one of the mystery BBQ foods served in S.E. Asia by street vendors. I learned a long time ago never to ask what a food was until AFTER I finished eating.

To date, I've enjoyed just about every street food I've eaten (except in Burma... .) and the only time I ever got sick from food was after the Sunday Brunch Buffet in Bangkok's most luxurious 5-star hotel, the Mandarin Oriental!

Only two places in the world that I managed to get ill from eating the local food: Bangkok and Lisbon.

I went from pale pink to a very interesting greenish colour, and thought that I was going to die.

I lived.

Cheers

ugh! I spent 4 days on the floor of a hotel bathroom in Mexico. that was when I was 16!!! I was truly going from both ends and simply could not stay away from the toilet for any length of time. when my parents found I had made a nest with the towels they convinced the hotel management to get me a small sleeping pad in there
