Great! I'm looking forward to the fix!

I'll try the "Home" thing- the first time I tried, it still didn't work; shut down the machine. Seems to do okay now. If it still acts up, I'll let you know.

Thanks for your help! And I agree, you guys are great. Good customer service.

Hmm. The "Home" trick still doesn't work, or only intermittently.

I upgraded to 1.7.1 and now the reader will shutdown every single time I hit the power button. If I back out to the home page it does go to sleep. Anyway to downgrade?

I find that if I click the power button very quickly I can still get it to go to sleep mode.

I find that only works with items bought at the Kobo store. Any of my "sideloaded" books result in the reader powering down.

Works with my side load but I literally have to click it fast as if I'm playing an intense video game

Doesn't work for me- not even video-game style.

The sleep mode does not work on epub file that I copied to my Kobo, no matter how short my tap on the power button is. Only time it works is right after I switch from built in ebook. then it will go to sleep, only the first time. when I turn it on and then hit the power button again, then it will power off.
Sleep mode appears to work on built-in ebooks though.

I got my Kobo two days ago, and when I set up my desktop application, the device automatically updated its firmware so I assume my Kobo is up-to-date.

Not being able to make the device sleep is annoying. the Power on sequence is a long wait if you compare it to the wake up sequence.

Yes, adachim, that's exactly the issue I'm having. And you're right, it's annoying.
Well, they said they'd fix it on the next update... I hope they do.

adachim, try putting your Kobo to sleep from the "Home" screen. It works for me most of the time now on my downloaded epub's (but not on pdf's). I still have to re-open the book to the page I was on when I wake it up, but that's faster than rebooting the whole machine.

Sleep with "sideloaded" epubs

Hi there,

Just some data points for the kobo team and anyone else having this issue (based on my experience with the kobo - purchased 1 week ago):

-If you try to put the device to sleep from "sideloaded" epubs by using the power button while reading the epub, the device will always power off instead of go to sleep.

-If you go back to the home screen and try to sleep with the power button, it will sometimes go to sleep and sometimes power off.

-If you let the device idle for 15 minutes while open on a page from a "sideloaded" epub, the device will always go to sleep (at least so far <- seems a good work-around for now

-If the device previously powered off, when you start reading the epub again, the previous display settings are not remembered i.e. font goes back to default, etc

-If the device previously slept, when you wake it up, the display settings are properly remembered

Liking the customer service so far, based on responses from the dev/support team here...keep up the good work, kobo

Can a Kobo rep confirm this will be fixed sooner then later?

Hi everyone - we are aware of this problem and have it fixed here. We will include it in the next major release of the Kobo Wireless software (1.8) which we expect to ship before the end of the year.
