Reading another Trollope book-- Mr Scarborough's Family, which I'm liking more than Miss Mackenzie. One of the characters turned out to be a villain which I honestly wasn't expecting based on the first four chapters (we find out he's a villain in chapter five or six), so that was weird. He even does the cliched villain-ranting-to-his-minion thing, which is actually kind of funny. Some nice female characters in here, too, with staunch personalities and a mind of their own.

Finished reading History of phosphorus by Eduard Farber, which I found very interesting. Now reading Dubliners by James Joyce and enjoying the convenience of being able to double-tap on a word, to look it up in the dictionary.

I recently finished "The Year We Finally Solved Everything" by Rudy Kerkhoven. It comes recommended from me. It's hard to explain in just a few sentences, but I was quite compelled to read it through to the end in quick order.

Check out my review here.

Thank you for the link! I just finished (and enjoyed) "Old Man's War" as well and now downloaded the one you recommended.

I've just finished Daniel Okrent's Last Call, a history of Prohibition in America. Really interesting stuff - and fun to see some of the laws, customs and products that were inspired by Prohibition.

Now I'm nearly half way through David Mitchell's The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. Really enjoying it - Mitchell is quite the storyteller.

Just finished The Miracle Inspector by Helen Smith, a fellow author who you may know from these boards. I found her here. Good stuff. If Patricia Highsmith wrote dystopian fiction but had more of a sense of humor, it might be something like this. I'll definitely read more from her.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

I'm reading The Scar by China Mieville. Before that I read The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken - both in paperback.

I have picked up two ebooks by two indie authors: How I Learned to Love the Walrus by Beth Orsoff and The Galaxy at War by John Fitch V.

Scalzi's good. I enjoy his work.

I'm thinking about starting Free Heretic by Joe Nassisi. It's fantasy, but it sounds kind of like a tough guy novel and I'm in the mood for that (by tough guy novel I mean guys found in novels like Lee Child, Robert Crais). We'll see. Reading time is ... scant this time of year!!!

I agree. I have to admit though I'm a sucker for NYC history and museums so that popped it to four stars for me. But not enough for me to want to rush out and buy another book in the series.

My favorites were Relic, The Ice Limit and Riptide.

The Ice Limit I couldn't put down and Riptide had me guessing until the final pages. I do recommend those two. Note: no Agent Pendergast in them.

Duly noted. I almost bought Riptide, I think when it was on sale. Relic sounded really interesting though. I guess I'll just see which of those three is available at the library

Oooh, I just got that too, it does look good. I'm probably going to start it tomorrow, when I've finished Keith Richards' autobiography.
