I could not get it to work, either. I did manage to change my homepage to google.com (minimo would not take a much longer url), then got google to do igoogle, then make a widget to point to my homepage, which has a link to the google bookmarks url (you could make a widget that went directly). Not a better idea, but a different one, and at least it has the same bookmarks as my desktop.

Could Minimo on an Ilaid be used for control?

I don't yet have an Ilaid and know its not meant to make the quick changes necessary to be a real web browser. Wondered though if it could be used to control a Slim Devices SqueezeBox? http://www.slimdevices.com/index.html and http://forums.slimdevices.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3

There are programs for tablets and PDAs to control it. Ilaid, to a layman, looks like cross between the two.

It would be very cool to be able to read while listening to music and change CDs or playlists or songs by highlighting an item on a page in the "book" one is reading from.

Adam, Thank your for your work on this.

I tried minimo yesterday. Installing was easy and also the network connection scripts worked beautifully. However, minimo was very slow, albeit not usable. It also crashed several times e.g. by accessing gmail or selecting text in de address bar, but this wasn't reproducible.

Anyway, I look forward to a better browser for the Iliad. It would be great to check my email or google notes while on the way.

I've just ordered one (an iLiad that is)!
The iLiad is a Linux device so if there is a Linux version of the control software you are referring to then it would be possible to port it to the iLiad. However, I imagine the chances of somebody doing the port is fairly low as you need someone who has an iLiad, a SqueezeBox, developer knowledge of both, and the time to do it!

You don't want to run the squeeze-server on the iliad, for several reasons. And if the slimserver runs on your pc/server somewhere, you can just access that servers web interface from your iLiad - should be good enough.

Making a custom UI for iLiad will never be done I believe - I can't see any huge demand for it. Perhaps if a suitable program could be easily ported, but I still doubt it.

Finally my iLiad has arrived and I love it (for the 6 hours I've had it!). Got Minimo installed and can load it up but it says it can't find the webpage. I thought maybe I needed to hit the background connection icon but that doesn't help and it goes off again after a few seconds. Obviously my wireless connection is working as I just connected to iDS to download the shell package. Any ideas?

Working now!

For those others that are as dense as me and couldn't figure this out you need to go to Device Manager on the iLiad -> Main Memory -> Programs -> Configuration Manager and turn on LAN/WLAN.

I'm guessing that if you install Minimo on a memory card that's where Configuration Manager gets installed too?

Feedback

Awesome, works great!

A few comments:

While Minimo loads a big JPEG-file (3MB), it quits all of a sudden.
This only appears after a few minutes of browsing so when Minimo has just been launched, the JPEG is shown correctly.

It would be handy if there's a way to scroll via arrow keys, my foldable keyboard doesn't have PgUp/PgDn keys. How about horizontal scrolling? I hope this can also be done via some keys.

Keep up de good work, AdamB!

Couldn't we use the sources to guess how the iLiad virtual keyboard is launched by minimo ? But I can't find it, trying again ...

It seems that the virtual keyboard is matchbox-keyboard, so I guess one can always
launch it in a thread.

In a shell, to see the beast :
# DISPLAY=:0 matchbox-keyboard

Does this mean that it is straight-forward to create shell scripts that take user input via the matchbox-keyboard? If so, anyone got an example to share?

I'm thinking that it should be possible, for example, to create a search script that works across more than just the current directory. And possibly some other ideas.

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to be so thick - I'm a total newbe to this sort of thing as I've no experience of Linux.

I've installed Minimo and deleted the icon - as instructed - which remained in the Device Manager list. However, I can't find any icon in any list which allows me to run your software.

Help!

Edward

There should be a programs folder on your memory card called "Programs". The launcher will be in there.

Hi Adam,

Do you know if SSL works. I managed to install Minimo using the installer available here but I seem unable to access SSL protected sites such as Gmail and Google Reader.

Kind Regards,
Tarek
