K3 will not start
I have searched the forums but I've not found anything that works yet, basically my relatively new k3 is stuck on the screen saver but will not start, I've tried all the obvious things, is there a hard reset or some means to remove the battery?

I don't have a K3, have a K2, but I believe if you push the slider button and hold it for a count of 6, that should help. are you not able to contact Amazon customer service? they are extremely helpful

On the Kindle 2 (and 3) there is no dedicated reset button as there is on the Kindle 1 (where you remove the back cover and use a paperclip in the reset hole) so this tends to stump people.

For the New Kindle 3 / Kindle 2 & Kindle DX you need to use the power on switch. Slide and hold it in the on position for a good 15 seconds then release. Wait another couple of mins then the screen should start flashing before the device resets itself.

If this does not work, plug your Kindle to charge. Hopefully you will see a charge light (bottom of Kindle) and this is a good sign. Charge fully until the light goes green then unplug and try the reset again. If it still doesn't work then you'll need to contact Kindle support.

Kindlekitten, I have contacted CS but due to my location-South Africa-it's email support only, they have said they will contact me in 24-48 hours, holding power button is not working.

TheKindleWorm, I have tried the power button trick for 30-90 seconds but to no avail, the charge light is on-yellow-so maybe I will leave it on charge overnight to see if that helps or until it goes green, it's 20h43 local time here.

oh, ok, if it yellow then it was probably completely run down when you got it. I think a full charge is 3, maybe 4 hours, that will probably do the trick. let us know. and welcome to the forums!

I suggest using the wall charger and charging it overnight, then try a reset.

It's now sitting on the 'USB drive mode screen', about to unplug the USB cable...

I'll second that, as the battery-indicator doesn't always give a right idea about the power the Kindle still has. Hold the slide on/off for about 20 sec. after fully charged. Good luck.

Jeez, this unit seems a little bit flaky, I've plugged it back in again to get fully recharged, but good advice desertblues, I was about to go that route, hopefully that won't be necessary....

OK, power button is now green again, so clearly it wasn't really flat, but we never know how (in)accurate the electronic reporting is, let's hope this little baby behaves itself from now on, I really can't handle a kindleless night!
