I'm the IT guy for 2 kobos and I've never had a problem with them that wasn't my fault. One of them has been hammered pretty well (at least 1 hour usage, with lots of page flicking and TOC examining due to Calibre's news feed), and I've only had problems with either a malformed epub (one I tried to make myself) or wierd images causing crashes (esquire newsfeed).

I've only had mine for a few days now, but it's been fine...time will tell though, I suppose. What I am most concerned about is battery life. Once those batteries drain for good, it's good-bye Charlie...

I've had my reader since late May.

I read EVERY day for a minimum 5-6 hours (usually late at night) and ... *touch wood* ... no probs with the battery since v1.4

I have a problem with the dpad coming away - otherwise I am happy with the device itself. It is the PUBLISHERS I am not happy with, DRM and geographic restrictions are my big complaint, and unfortunately the kobo shop gets caught up in this

Take a look at glue advice somewhere on this forums.
Geo restrictions? I'm sure that kobo should set a proxy for people
willing to get the book they like. It is possible, simply cannot get
if there might be a legal problem to do that.

I think this is the biggest problem with digital media. At least the music publishers are waking up and realising their mistakes in the past, DRM is just teaching people how to pirate or preventing new people from entering the market based on the horror stories they have read/heard. I know I wont recommend ereaders to people who aren't computer experts.

I'm on my fourth Kobo WiFi in about three weeks... The first exchange was for the sleep problem with side-loaded books, which I thought was a hardware issue (it's not, it's a firmware problem). The second was cosmetics- I wanted the silver instead of grey. The third was for a messed-up screen. (And all of them still have that sleep problem; I'm waiting for another firmware upgrade to deal with it).

But, having said all of that, why do I keep exchanging it instead of just asking for my money back and going with a different reader? Because I do love my Kobo. It's exactly what I want in an e-reader, and the price is right. Plus, I've gotten great customer service from both the Kobo help line, where I'm never on hold for more than a few minutes before I get to talk to a real person, and from the Chapters store where I bought it (and keep exchanging it).

Yeah, the Kobo WiFi seems buggy at this point, but I trust that the bugs will be resolved in time. Meanwhile, I just consider myself to be a beta tester for a product I really like.

Actually, only the last exchange was due to bad luck with the screen crapping out. The other two were a firmware issue which is a problem with all WiFi Kobos right now, and sheer taste on my part, so that one was an optional exchange. Can't really blame my taste in Kobo colours on bad luck...

We have three in our family and have not had issues with any of them (post-firmware upgrade, previously had a few books with tiny font)

Hi. I have all but placed my order for a Kobo with Wifi. Isn't it interesting about human nature and complaining. I was starting to wonder if getting a Kobo was a bad idea but I am glad it isn't. There do seem to be some people for whom things like to malfunction and break. Sometimes it is carelessness, rough handling or sometimes it is just plain bad luck with gadgets. I like the classics A LOT and having 100 preloaded is a pretty nice perk. The price is enticing also. So wish me luck in this endeavor. I hope to be a happy Kobo user soon.

I doubt you'll need much luck Trisher. For such a small company, kobo's made quite a splash in the market with their eReader and the vast majority of their customers are too busy reading to bother posting here.

Enjoy your kobo!
