Which Kindle do I need for jailbreaking?

			Hi guys,

I want to get a Kindle 3 mostly to hack and play with. I am not really familiar with most of the apps available and I need to know if I really need the 3G version if I want to have the most fun. Quite often, I cannot really tell from some of the discussions if what they are doing applies to both models. So what will I lose if I go WiFi only? much thanks |

All of the Kindles (except Kindle 1) can be jailbroken. The WiFi version is just as good for the hacks as any of them.

It applies to all the Kindle 3 models.

If you get the Kindle 3 WiFi then you get better wireless on battery life but you lose 3G which means you can't download or browse without a WiFi connection. Apart from that, they're pretty much exactly the same. |

Some of the apps I read about seem to speak about browser hacks. Are these applicable to 3G as well as WiFi? Also, is there a general search term that will let me look for applications that people are developing?

Thanks for the quick answers by the way. Also, it is possible I am misusing the terns as I am a nook user and we do things differently. Is jailbreaking the starting point to any hack or just fonts and screen savers? If I am wrong, where is a good thread for modifications? Thanks again |

The hacks that I know of are, screensaver, fonts, usb networking and the very beta Duokan alerternate firmware. All are for Kindle 2, and DX. I'm not sure what browser hack you're thinking of.

You can look through the forum you've posted in (Kindle Developers) to see what is available. |

I seem to recall a discussion of some type of hack that was allowing people to have more comprehensive internet access through the Kindle. Some of the discussion dealt with the user agreement allowing Amazon to charge for excessive use. In any case, thanks. Is duokan the firmware that allows epub reading? |
