As I've said I agree. There is a matter of doing what is right on the part of Amazon (as well as the writer). This whole thing is very disgusting.

I know I said I try to stay away from hot topics -- give me the unicorns and rainbows and all that -- but this one disturbs me on so many levels. If this is "freedom of speech," would Amazon sell a "how-to" book on the best way to kill a cop or assassinate (sp?) a President? I'm not talking about a novel with those subjects -- I'm talking about a NONFICTION book giving specific hints on how to best do those things. And that's a serious question -- would they?

And still not a freedom of speech issue.
If a child molestor is talking, it is acting on what it talks about. And freedom of speech is a right reserved for humans. Child molestors are not human. Defending their right to diseminate their filth is reprehensible. |

Tell that to the FCC. They seem to be more concerned with content-policing than actually watching the gauges their office was formed to watch in the first place.

I'm simply saying that, until we know the entire story we can't make any 100% statements about what happened leading up to the stupidity. Free speech is one thing - poor judgment is another, and both the author and Amazon exhibited extremely poor judgment!! |

Amazon is actively and buisily deleting negative comments on that page. when I first viewed it there were four pages of comments, now there are two.

Amazon uk customer service phone number is 0800 496 1081
The lass who took my call hadn't heard about this yet and there was an audible gasp of shock from her when she looked it up after I gave her the item number for her to look up the ebook. I was polite throughout and so was she and seemed understanding about my being upset by the book. I pointed out that I wouldn't be doing Xmas shopping from amazon while that was up for sale as while there is freedom of speech that's taking it way too far... Finished off with her asking if she could record the call and send it to the kindle team so they could hear some customer feedback (as I didn't have my amazon login handy to login and send feedback as she asked me to do), and I gave her my permission for her to do so. I doubt my call will make a blind bit of difference, but I figured I'd post the uk customer service number here so other uk members can give them a call like I did if they want to. Dave |

Okay...stop me if you've heard this one...
How about boycotting Amazon? Hear me out on this: The agency-pricing thing didn't work out. Too much money involved. Amazon is huge, so it's definitely a Davey-and-Goliath thing. But once it gets in the press that Amazon is carrying this thing, it won't be hard to get some heavy artillery mobilized and help Amazon see the error of their ways; when you're talking about something like this, it's not just a few disgruntled ebook customers anymore. We know it's about money. They know it's about money. As long as Amazon thinks they stand to lose more than they gain from this, we can make the right thing happen. Ask Shel, I'm by no means an optimist or a pipe-dreamer, but I do think it's feasible. |

I suspect it's worth letting Amazon know you're boycotting them, and why, as well - the yeti (aka TallNHairyDave) has put the UK number up. And also let others know what you're doing and why.
The internet makes it easy for people to publish stuff like this, but it also makes it easy for people to find out about it, disseminate that information and take action. |

interesting reviews popping up on the site;
10 of 71 people found the following review helpful: 5.0 out of 5 stars This is the single best book ever written, November 10, 2010 By Arkadia - See all my reviewsThis review is from: The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure (Kindle Edition) if for no other reason than the horde of frothy-mouthed crusaders shouting for its utter annihilation. The subject matter is all but irrelevant, as I'm sure the very same people decrying someone willing to write outside of their moral comfort zone would be completely aghast at someone saying the same thing about a devout Christian book. Stop calling the author a monster, and stop threatening to shop elsewhere. The posturing serves no one, and the ad hominem doesn't either. And the louder you shout about your morals, the more inclined I am to believe you're a hypocrite. And have a nice day everyone! The instructions and images in the guide were extremely insightful and led to a wonderful experience for both myself and my partner. Thank you for protecting free speech, Amazon! back to the Newfie incident; there is a message board where the story is posted. this appears to be more information from the second link. like I said, it appears to be an unbridled testosterone laden sausage fest;
As the witness to this event I will also say that Rosie never moved from her original position, they shot her exactly where she stood peering at me through the bushes. The officers were shooting at a still target in a fully fenced off yard. If I would have known that they were going to gun her down I would have stopped them. They should have told me.I would have let her stay in the yard for as long as needed. I also forgot to mention the officer chuckling as he explained to me that "they had never had one this big before". Not ever considering the danger and sadness they put upon my family. It makes me sick to my stomach to think this happened in our community. |
