Same in the UK - hardback is £7.60 on Amazon, £9.99 for the Kindle Edition, and it isn't the VAT differential either, as the Kindle version would be £8.93 if it was.

Stupid pricing, expected result: consumers pissed off, going to darknet.
I wonder how long it took an executive committee of brilliant people to arrive at the worst possible decision? |

Unfortunately, the publishers are used to the DTB world, where people like me, who are unwilling to pay hardcover or trade paperback prices, are willing to wait for the paperback, get it used, or get it from the library. In the new digital world, you can't get it used, in the case of MacMillan and Simon & Schuster, can't get it from the library (in ebook form), and it's usually trivial to find a copy of their ebook with the DRM stripped on the darknet. The genie's not going back into the bottle, so I really don't know what the publishers will be doing in the long run. I don't think the Agency 5 are doing themselves any favors by setting the prices to what they want them to be, and forbidding discounting.

Yeah I got it from the darknet, but I bought the hard copy, so in my opinion I'm entitled to the digital version....regardless of what anyone else thinks.
Movies have got it right. You buy the DVD/Blu-Ray for $20 or whatever and you get a digital version free. |

I don't like darknet versions of books. Formatting is usually wonky. Don't know if it is how they are scanned or what.

Most of what I find is ePubs that people bought, so they are perfect, this one is perfect.

I really wish people would stop doing this. It really drives me up the wall. I saw a whole bunch of 1 stars for towers of midnight because it was delayed for three months. I mean, the reviews have nothing to do with the book, and it's pretty much just people whining that they can't have their cake and eat it too. I've pretty much given up on browsing or buying books outside of a book store.
