Right - I can just picture the expression on the salesgirl's face when you march into the Verizon store and ask for a "saliva-resistant" cell phone!

Seriously, Petrush has yet to chew up anything.

Except the eyes out of his Beanie Babies.

I had a phone that did many things, including take pictures. We went back to our old brick of a cell phone, as the one thing my new shiny multipurpose phone could not do was actually make phone calls in remote or rural areas. I would lose signal walking between my parent's living room & kitchen. The call with the shiny new phone would be dropped as their house is precisely between two cell towers. My old phone wasn't that fussy. It would make calls. I get reception with it, that I can't get with any other phone we've owned. Needless to say, we're using the old one, more than the new one.

For me, that would amount to about a buck-fifty a month. I HATE talking on the phone!! I hope Alexander Graham Bell and all the others who laid claim to the invention of the blasted thing are being made to clean up after Cerberus in Hades!

I'll play. I have the absolutely cheapest cellphone I could find. I hate to talk on the phone, but sometimes it's really helpful for my job.

Example: a dog I was looking after appeared to be bloating when I was there. The dog lived outside, I had no access to the house and the phone inside. If I hadn't had my cellphone to contact the owner, the regular vet, and the emergency vet, very bad things could have happened. But thanks to cellphone technology, the dog got treated, and lived.

I used to be able to take pictures and upload them, but for some reason the website I have to load them to seems to have stopped accepting them. And customer service hasn't helped. So I'm learning to live w/o that feature.

That one was sturdy, but he couldn't stand water (it was victim nr 1 that drowned in my bag due to a bottle which lost its cap).

Which is why I bought my current (expensive!) phone. It can withstand water, it can withstand a fall, even on concrete, and it has nice large buttons and is easy to use!

I don't even have a cell phone. Can I join?

(never mind that I have a small palm-sized computing device)

FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
Aye, very passable, that, very passable bit of smartphone.
SECOND YORKSHIREMAN:
Nothing like a good iPhone, eh, Josiah?
THIRD YORKSHIREMAN:
You're right there, Obadiah.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Who'd have thought thirty year ago we'd all be sittin' here talking about phones, eh?
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
In them days we was glad to have the price of sending a letter.
SECOND YORKSHIREMAN:
A letter without a stamp.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Without an envelope.
THIRD YORKSHIREMAN:
Or piece of paper.
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
In a damp mailbox, an' all.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Oh, we never had a mailbox. We used a hollowed out tree.
THIRD YORKSHIREMAN:
But you know, we were happy in those days, though we were poor.
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
Because we were poor. My old Dad used to say to me, "Informtion doesn't buy you happiness, son".
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
Aye, 'e was right.
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
Aye, 'e was.
FOURTH YORKSHIREMAN:
I was happier then and I had nothin'. We used to live in this tiny old house with a big satellite dish on the roof.
SECOND YORKSHIREMAN:
A satellite dish? You were lucky to have a satellite dish! We used to have cable TV, 60 channels, no MTV, no cooking channel, 'uddled together in in front of one telly.
THIRD YORKSHIREMAN:
Eh, you were lucky to have cable! We used to have to watch terrestrial!
FIRST YORKSHIREMAN:
Oh, we used to dream of watching television! Would ha' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woke up every morning by local radio! TV? Huh.

Around here I ran out of ideas .... (thanks to Monty Python for the inspiration )
