I've started a re-read of Ford Madox Ford's "The Good Soldier" - uploaded by our own crutledge. Ever since I watched the PBS dramatization, I always hear Robin Ellis' voice narrating the book as I read. A masterpiece of duplicitous narration and emotional savagery!

I finished reading Franz Kafka's The Trial, which I thought ended somewhat abruptly. Now I'm reading something entirely different, How to Analyze People on Sight ... which apart from having a rather wordy title, that continues ... Through the Science of Human Analysis; The Five Human Types, also contains some entertaining archaic verbiage, for example "He has discovered and invented and builded until now we live in skyscapers, talk around the world without wires and by pressing a button turn darkness into daylight." The emphasis is mine. "You know a rose, a violet, a sunflower and an orchid and what perfume you are sure to find in each, by the same method. All are flowers and all belong to the same species, ...". Hmm, very scientific.

I finished it last night, and I thought it was pretty fantastic, but... it kind of gave me nightmares.

It is VERY dark humor!

It's scary to see things from his viewpoint isn't it? Especially when you find yourself agreeing with him!

Exactly! I was going to say my nightmares were because the descriptions of the murders were so graphic, but they're really not. It's what is inside his head that is so scary!

I read the first two books in the series, and I had nightmares as well! I really enjoyed them, though, and plan on reading the rest of the series.

I'm STILL reading "The Way of Kings" - I'm about 70% of the way through, and (so far) I recommend it to fantasy lovers. It took me a while to get into the story, but now I've really grown to like the book. The book has been favourably compared to the "Song of Ice and Fire" series - I have to say, the two are quite different, which does not mean that fans of George R.R. Martin's series won't enjoy this one. The tone is very different, I found.

LOL, by enjoy them I meant the books, not the nightmares. I'll be sure not to read the next installment before bedtime, though
