We had a rather "portly" male cashier whose belly rested on the scales, once. The customer was complaining about the price of her apples, so he called the customer service manager over. She had to use every bit of tact and diplomacy she possessed (I think she's still paying off the deal with the devil she made that day for extra patience), to get him to step away from the scale and let her weigh the apples.

ETA: that had to be one really short cashier.... our scales are about waist level....
