It does make you wonder if this was the plan for the last book as well, but they could at least hide behind the excuse that they were stupidly staggering the releases of the other books to dodge the complaints of potential customers they would be annoying with such a decision. |

The html version of first 11 books that I found served (yes, you use the actual browser to read it, chapter by chapter, from the server) on the net was one of the best formatted, proofed and equipped (illustrations and all) ebooks that I ever saw, including beautiful works hosted on this server.
Giving those guys any headstart seems outright insane, IMHO. |

Right, so the 'no ebook' strategy lasted for about 3 days given this is popular. Although if a first scan likely will need a bit of work given it is so long.

I cant understand why they give people the chance to do this kind of thing. They decided they didnt want to release the ebook so consumers did it for them. Many will buy it anyway but theres two things Id like to say. First, I hope they release the ebook with some extra content such as another prequel to justify the purchase. Second, I hope that when this series is complete they offer a complete ebook version for purchase.

An omnibus or bundle? Macmillan come up with a nice, consumer friendly idea like that for a series that will only be 30 years old?
You're dreaming. ;-) Maybe in 2030... And if you go on the music and video industry 'every download is a lost sale' propaganda accounting system, this book will soon be well into the negative money, presumably. ;-) |

I know for a fact that if they offered a Wheel Of Time Omnibus with all fourteen books plus all the prequels and some extra content Id buy that in a heartbeat. Problem is I know theyd make it so expensive Id probably be better buying them all in paperback and hardcover and Id still have money to spare.
My question is this, if they want to see any download as a lost sale why in the World do they all but encourage downloading? The fact that they didnt release it the same day as the hardcover lost them an unprecedented amount of sales but they probably dont want to see that or even think about it. |

Presumably Macmillan think that dead tree paper shuffling is the thing that makes them money, only - and that if they can't do that, they are toast, so they are attempting to drag out their shortish term survival...
And also that they are not capable of increasing the overall market for books going forward. With their attitude, of course, they definitely are not capable, so as a whole the publishing industry is long-term better off without management with no vision, strategy or ability. It would be pretty funny if what killed them was actually digital recalcitrance because their competitors were more advanced in this arena so capital flowed their way and they survived while Macmillan expired. |

The version I noticed was html, actually, so there's more out there. I imagine it won't take long for it to be upgraded....

I've seen txt and PDF versions so far. I have only read the first two books, and those were years ago, so I need to restart the books anyway. Looks like mid next year will be a good time.

Cool, wish I saw that version LOL. Of course it'll be a couple months before I get to it, still have to read 12....but I'm off to buy 13, combined with my Borders Bucks and the discount, it'll cost me $10 in HC woo!!
