RadioPod

Ben Hammersley has been fiddling with a new idea podcast-like idea: RadioPod.

Quote:
I’ve cobbled together a server app, RadioPod, to record streaming radio stations, convert them to MP3s, and then provide an RSS 2.0 feed for a PodCasting application to download and then throw into iTunes ready for my iPod. I’m using it for The Today Programme off BBC Radio 4 every morning. It’s jolly nice to walk the dogs and listen to James Naughtie.

His code's now up on SourceForge.

I use Total Recorder Professional Edition to record streaming audio. You can listen on your pc or move it to an iPod. You can schedule recordings, edit them and do any number of smart things. It can record as WAV, MP3 (including VBR) and Ogg Vorbis.

Does TRP send to the pod automatically though? I also use a couple of different packages to grab streaming content, but you have to manually move them to your pod. Ben's sw automates the content delivery process by building off ipodder.

No, it's not automatic, but it only takes a couple of minutes using Anapod.

Hmm. Hadn't seen Anapod before. It looks pretty cool, but I don't see anything about automation. It looks like you need to do a drag 'n drop. I may download the trial though and check it out.

No automation, but very flexible, and constantly under development. I first used this in pre-iTunes for Windows days, when the default was MusicMatch, which was sooo slow. I have to admit that now I've got iTunes on my laptop, I only use it for ripping (AAC is better than MP3), but still use Anapod for transfers - in fact, I've never even tried using iTunes!

I didn't d/l it afterall. After more inspection I decided that I'll just stick with Ephpod, which is freeware. Unfortunately it doesn' sync to the podcasts and the like automatically either, so I'll have to keep iTunes hanging around.
