I've sent it to the device from the Calibre library, and it shows up in the Kobo's physical "calibre" directory. But it's nowhere to be found once I unplug the device.

Strangely, after not being able to find the books on my Kobo, when I plug the Kobo back in to the computer, I can see that the news articles are all still sitting there in the "calibre" folder. Is there a reason why the Kobo wouldn't be recognizing that folder?

I've just started having this prob with a book I bought yesterday.

It was Smokey Joe's Cafe by Bryce Courtenay (a recent addition to kobo's available authors).

I downloaded it as an epub from kobobooks, using ADE (1.4 firmware).

Haven't had this prob with any other purchases. Looked through the entire books list and tried all the other suggestions put forward.

When I tried to drop it in again, got the message saying file already existed but I'll be damned if I can find it!

I had this problem with one book as well, MamaSue. My solution for that book was to load the book through Calibre, which worked. I believe that it was a malformed book that "landed" in the database, but did not have the coding to actually interact the right way with the reader.. Even when sideloaded through Calibre the book was very, very slow to load--annoyingly so. One choice, if you are not wanting to go the Calibre route, would be to write to help@kobobooks.com and ask for a refund.

If you do use Calibre, think of it as you would ADE and just import the book from your "My Digital Editions" folder on your computer into Calibre or download the ePUB again, using Calibre rather than ADE as your download program, when asked your preference. I am guessing that the original download will show up in the new version of Calibre and that you can delete it from there (click on device===>show books in main memory==Choose delete).

My experience was that having the *bad* book in the Db screwed with how "I'm Reading" worked on the Kobo and getting rid of the book in the sqlite Db solved the problem. It may just be a coincidence, but that was how it worked for me. Back then, there was no option to remove the book through Calibre so I decided to use a recent backup of my sqlite file--had I not had one, I think I would have seen if replacing the Db would have worked or reset to factory defaults and reloaded the books.

I use Calibre to upload ebooks to all the ereaders in the house without issue.

I truly believe software such as that provided by Kobo, Adobe and Sony cause more issues than they are often worth.

Calibre handles DRM transfer quite well, though it will not obviously allow metadata editing and file conversions of such infested files.

I am having the same problem. I have loaded a number of books in Epub format to my Kobo using Calibre. I can't find them on the Kobo after I disconnect.

I assume database has to be reprocessed after disconnection.
Have you waited long enough? If yes, check metadata in your
books. If all fine, reconnect and disconnect again. Someone in
the past called this device humoring "shock the monkey".

I have just had a crash with my Kobo and posted a help request on Kobo's site. They say they have had problems with their software (with a helpful footnote of "If the eReader has been damaged because of thes (sic) crash, we unfortunately will be unable to replace it under the warranty." )
I have managed to get the thing working again, but lost all the free Kobo books and now can't read any of the books I bought from Borders. I am still waiting to hear from Borders as they may be able to just replace the books in my Borders library.
Mmm...suddenly gone from being a big Kobo fan to a very bewildered purchaser. This is the first time I have had to deal with the actual Kobo manufacturers, rather than Borders, and I am not very impressed. What is this business with their software? Now I am afraid to use it and will do everything through Calibre and Adobe DE. And I'd like the books I paid for back working again.

This sounds very odd. Couple of questions:

1. Original Kobo or Kobo Wifi? If Kobo Wifi, try doing a factory reset (Menu > Settings > Advanced), it should unpack a fresh version of your 100 free books. If Original Kobo, see the sticky note at the top of this forum on replacing your database with a fresh new one. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94789

2. Can you give me your ticket number please? I'll get the issue with warranty sorted out.

And the latest update. I rang Kobo and while the man at the helpdesk was very pleasant he really couldn't help. I then suggested I use other software to remove the paid content and reload, which he agreed might help, but he was in Canada and I bought it from Australia so ....
Anyhow, good old Calibre to the rescue again. The only software which could actually see the "bad" books and delete them. Then I reloaded with the crappy Borders/Kobo software and now they're back! Perhaps in an ideal world someone at Kobo could pay Mr Calibre a nice fat royalty cheque and use his software instead of theirs!!!

It's an original Kobo and the ticket number was 67444. The unit is now working properly because I managed to get rid of the purchased books (with Calibre - you can't do this with ADE or the Borders/Kobo software - and reload them from Borders. I wouldn't have minded if this all happened from leaving the Kobo out in the rain or dropping it, but it shouldn't brick itself from simply plugging in to recharge, having a look at the Borders bookshop offerings, then disconnecting it correctly. If the Borders/Kobo software has such a serious problem it needs to be fixed.

Kobo Wifi not showing books

I can also see the book in the windows explorer window, so I'm confident the file is on the device. I then eject the device and disconnect it from the computer and it processes new content, but the book doesn't appear in the Kobo's library.

I've managed to get 81 books on the Kobo and delete the preloaded ones using Calibre, but I don't understand why these few others don't appear. I have also tried transferring the books to the SD card without success.

I'm using Win 7, Calibre 0.7.20 and the Kobo's software revision is 1884.

Cheers
Does anyone have a step by step resolution for this issue. I have sent books from calibre to kobo reader. The books show with the checkmark as being on the kobo. I've also checked in explorer and the epubs are there.

But once I eject the device and kobo does the "processing new content, the books are not visible in the book library, nor are they in the I'm reading library". Very frustrating. Love to be able to read the epubs I've loaded.

If anyone can identify a fix, it would be appreciated. Thanks

ISSUE SOLVED:
I found a post on a different website and this worked I had added approx 50 books and they are finally on the kobo wifi. What is happening, is that the kobo freezes after you eject it. The processing is not complete, even though you get the message that its processed the new content. Leave the kobo, don't turn it off and it will process the new content, but it may be 5 to 10 mins before you see it in the library...just a note, the kobo acted like this previously. when it processed new content, I could see it almost immediately after ejecting.

finally I can take my kobo with me vs the bigger ipad

Here is the post from the goodread site: I did another factory reset, and then I tried adding a single random book. The same thing happened as soon as I ejected and unplugged my Kobo - the processing progress bar zoomed by and then I couldn't do anything on the I'm Reading menu. So I set the Kobo down on the couch next to me and just left it alone as opposed to turning it off as I had been - lo and behold, a minute later the screen flashed and I could do stuff. I went to the Books menu and *gasp*! my book was there. I repeated these steps again only this time I sent my entire library to the Kobo. I ejected and unplugged it, the processing progress bar zoomed by, and then on to the I'm Reading menu, where using the main button pad did nothing. So again I waited, and this time, about 5 - 10 minutes later, the screen flashes, and I can navigate to Books, and *YAY*! all my books are there.
